Jack's Story

Life I had been married to the same woman for over 58 years, she passed away in April 2014. We have three daughters (all grown and married) and had one sone who was killed in an Industrial accident in 2004. Our daughters have given us three grandsons and three granddaughters and a total of 8 grandkids I have been very active with the Boy Scouts as a Training Chairman, also as the council's Outdoor Ethics Advocate.I am a Master Educator with Leave No Trace and a Trainer with Tread Lightly. The summer of 2010 I attanded the 100th anniversary National Jamboree, staffing the Outdoor Etics, Leave No Trace, Tread Lightly program area. Now as a widower I spend more and more time in the outdoors and the wilderness areas backpacking and camping. I also volunteer with the Continental Divide Trail Coalition and the Arizona Trail Coalition. College I started college part time at Phoenix Junior College shortly after my son was born. I started there studying to be a Mechanical Engineer. When the Air Force transfered me to Tucson Arizona I attended the University of Arizona for one year. When I was transferred to Barksdale AFB there was no school within a reasonable driving distance with an Engineering program so I studied other subjets off and on for the next six years. Upon return from Viet Nam I was stationed in Denver and attended the University of Colorado part time for the next three years. Upon retirement from the Air Force I returned to Shreve[port, Louisiana and was finally able to complete ny degree at LSU-Shreveport; getting a BS in General Engineering and another in Analytical Chemistry, with minors in Library Science, Bussiness Asministration, Mathematics and Physics. place After Retiring from the Air Force I returned to college to get my degree. I finally graduated in 1975 with degrees in General Engineering and Analytical Chemistry. I worked for two years as an Analytical Chemist, but got bored with the job since I was doing the same tests every day. In 1976 the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) hired me as an Electronics Engineer. I spent the next 13 plus years mostly in the field as an expert on Radar Installation and New Control Towers. The last couple of years I was the program manager for Radar Programs. I retired from the FAA in 1989 and in two weeks went to work for Ratheon Support Services as a Senior Electronics Engineer doing the same thing but now as a contractor. Some of my biggest jobs were as supervisor of the electronics installetion of the two (that's correct) ATCT Control Towers at DFW Airport and a Year or so later on the construction of the DFW Radar Approach Control facility. I retired from Raytheon in January 2002 and now spend my time doing volunteer work with the local Boy Scout Camp and also with my church where I act as resident electrician for both organizations. In my spare tim I am usually in my wood shop making tables, bookcases, cabinets and custom design work on occassion for others. Military Korea 1952, flew 50 missions on a A-26. Morrocco, 1962, while stationed there it rained for 20 days straight. I spent 140 hours in 6-1/2 days documenting rescue & flood relief. Thailand, 1987 to establish a photo inteligence lab so the B-52s could fly out of Thailand rather than from Guam. Viet Nam, 1989 photo intelligence lab providing field commanders of real time data on Charlie's locations and activity.
