Jackie's Story

Nice to see so many familiar faces. Even better to see you're all still around! :) I lived most of my adult life in SW Torrance. Spent many years in the political arena, serving 12 years on two commissions in Torrance, worked in local and federal elections, including the election staff for a U.S Congressman. Thanks Mr. chapman who made U.S. Government interesting. But he was always marking me down for talking in class. Oh well I still got a lot out of it. Also Mr. Heisner in History class, it's all your fault! LOL Also served on board of directors for the YWCA. Met lots of wonderful life long friends. I spent 8 years as a docent at the Cabrillo Marine Museum. What fun that was, giving tours, lecturing on the whale sight seeing boats out of San Pedro, playing in the tide pools and hatching grunion eggs with school kids. I love dabbling in interior design and was going to design school just prior to the big D. Had an antique store for a couple years and love poking around in old musty 2nd hand stores. What is wrong with me? LOL After my divorce I sold my home in Torrance and moved to Rancho Santa Margarita in Orange County where I bought a condo. Never really liked the condo life. Mom and Dad lived in San Luis Obispo County for some 40 years. Mom got Dementia and was getting worse. I was spending lots of driving time there to help dad. After she passed away I made a semi permanent move to be close to dad as he was slowing down. They lived in Atascadero then. He sadly passed away in April, five years ago. Now I find myself more then busy keeping up with all the many rentals they had. If you've ever been through a Trust... Ugh!! Well, as an update, got through that nasty ole Trust and a probate... Whew! I've since changed my plans and decided to stay in Paso Robles. I looked forward to moving back to the south bay but Paso's a nice town even though it's a tourist town. People are nice and traffic is so not like L.A. I miss the ocean but drive to Morro Bay for clam chowder and to breathe in the salty air every so often. Paso has an adorable downtown area with a park in the center w...Expand for more
ith, yes, even a gazebo. The over 200 wineries are fun to take guests for wine tastings. (not all 200 at once of course). My few trips back to old stomping grounds for visits really opened my eyes to where my home should be. Life is slower here and more relaxed and not any of that horrible traffic.. And let's face it at our age slow is what we look for, don't we?? Never was the party goer but loved going line dancing and 2 steppin' at Alpine village. It was so much fun. I bought a nice home here in Paso and am loving it. Lots of work keeping up so I have hired help. Geeesh I used to do all this myself. It's on 1 acre and I'm happy here. Come visit!! LOL Lot's of room! I enjoy my three sons (of course well into adulthood now). I have one grand child, my grandson Robert. I adore him! He's in college now wanting to be a lawyer. They all live in the South Bay so that is hard. It would be nice to hear from some of you, especially some of my old friends. Very sadly my sister Jerrie passed away several years ago. She was one year behind me at Hawthorne High. My other sister Hessie lives in Paso Robles now with her husband. Remember her boy friend Dennis Wilson? They wrote the song Fun Fun Fun about her. It was all true. Mom and dad had a TBird and she was forever going to the library in it (sure). It was a family joke. It was always, "Where's Hessie?" "Oh, she's at the library." She was so afraid dad would hear the words to the song and be on to her. LOL I finally told him about 10 years ago and of course at that point he didn't care any longer, he only laughed. No fear of grounding any more. LOL Any one ever hear from Fred Wade, Ralph Manley who was a neighbor, my ole boyfriend Gerald Sharp, or Linda Cribb and many more I can't think of?? It has been a while, huh? Just wondering how they are doing. Had a crush on Judd Carpenter, don't think he knew it though. He used to drive that Pepto Bismol pink Chevy (yuk) that I think he was in love with... Don't do much socializing as I'm always busy taking care of 'things.' Come visit and maybe we can change that! LOL LOL
