Richard's Story
I joined the Navy the year after graduation, and worked as an anti-submarine warfare technician (STG-2), and as ship's recovery and rescue swimmer aboard the USS Sampson (DDG-10). My ship was home-ported in Norfolk, VA. We visited New York City, Montreal Canada, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Lebanon, and the island of Malta.
After the Navy, I returned to The University of Texas at El Paso for a degree in Geology. I moved to Houston and worked 30+ years as an Exploration Geophysicist in the Oil & Gas industry. I caused 41 wells to be drilled in the onshore and offshore Gulf of Mexico trends, and had a 48% commercial success rate (the industry average is about 12%). I met my wife Linda, also a Geologist, while working at Sohio (Standard Oil of Ohio), which was later absorbed into British Petroleum. Since retiring in 2004, we divide our time between Las Cruces, NM (home), Dayton, VA (our farm), Yellowstone National Park, and travel. We drive 20K+ miles a year with our second Vizsla 'Lany'. Lany loves to retrieve dove, quail, and especially ducks, which is unusual for a pointer. She is a high-energy hard charger when she is not being a couch potato.
