Jacqueline's Story

Life hmm - who thought i'd be writing a biography at the tender age of 40-something?? well, let's see- i live in virginia - have since 1994, so i guess it could be considered permanent - i bought a house so i wouldn't move back to New York (City) too quickly, and i didn't!! i got married, so that made it much much harder. still in the same house - in an older section of richmond, called "THE FAN" - love it. no kids, just cats and a husband. work too much - always have, and i blame it on my parents- hmm - revisiting this section and looked at the story ideas proposed by the site - their questions generate a lot of thoughts - what happened to my first crush - who can say who my first crush was? growing up when/where i did - it was likely to be one of 4 or 5 people - doug mchugh or chipper fenn, or, if you were someone other than me, my brother. so instead, this made me think of the first person that my older self thought was a serious, potentially long lasting "thing" - Mark Sears. he died. likely killed hismself, although that wasn't clear at the time and i didn't pursue it. he changed in college, it was sad and difficult and i didn't handle it well. next question - skipping the "how would old frie...Expand for more
nds remember me?" - i have no idea. no idea how the person i am today resembles the person i was in high school or college. i think i haven't changed that much inside, but i'm pretty sure the outside "demonstration" has changed - the face i present to the world in present day virginia has little resemblance to 1970's massachusetts, and maybe 1970's new jersey. where would i be to be truly happy?? they say that money doesn't buy happiness. and i think that's true - i think you have to make your own happiness. but in my case, it would buy the freedom to be comfortable, to continue to be able to support my family and friends in need, but to spend my time in volunteer work. i spent some time volunteering in the local school system a few years ago - and feel a real loss that i no longer have the time/energy to do it. If I won $100 million, I'd give some part of it to the richmond SPCA, the William Byrd Community Center, and Habitat for Humanity, then spend the rest on house for my sister, financial security for my mother and stepson for their lifetimes, and improving our lake house to make it what i want and need for the rest of my life. of course, it might be a good idea to ask my husband if he agrees!!
