Jacqueline's Story

For Barbara: I attended several colleges in the 70s before deciding I should stop wasting my parents' money and went to work in retail...Raleigh's Haberdasher, for those of you who remember! My career in retail lasted until 1979 when I joined a management training program at a bank. Also in that time, I moved to Reno, Nevada after falling in love with the mountains and the high desert. My career in banking ended in 1990 when, as VP Human Resources, I decided the merger environment was not healthy for me and I returned to school at the University of Nevada to finish the degree I had walked away from in 1975. In January 1981, I met Danny Taylor, Chairman of the Mining Engineering Department at UNR and by September we had bought a house and were living together. We married in December 1983 on Hilton Head Island, where my parents retired in 1984. As an older student, I discovered I really liked learning and the university environment...I now have a Masters in Speech Communication and Journalism, and am finishing a PhD in Educational Leadership and Educational Technology. I have held a faculty appointment at UNR since 199...Expand for more
2 and currently run a grant-funded research center in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education. Danny and I are happily married and are each other's best friend. We sold our large house on acreage four years ago and now have a smaller home which we have just finished remodeling. We wanted more time to play golf, hunt, snowshoe, and travel. Instead we just work. We both have active consulting practices in addition to our UNR jobs, both of which have allowed us to travel to some very cool places: China, South Africa, Chile, Portugal, Spain and all over the U.S. My younger sisters, Connie and Pat, are both well and happy. Pat stayed on the East coast and lives with her husband in Warrenton, VA on a farm. Connie and her family live in Sherwood, Oregon. Her sons are 16 and 14. The three of us try to stay close...our parents are both gone...Mom died of breast cancer in 1993 and Dad died of multiple medical issues in 2009. I often think of our days in Annapolis, especially when I see a Ouija board, and mostly with great fondness...we had good childhoods! I am so grateful to have had you in my life.
