Jacqueline's Story

I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right. I taught foreign languages in a private school while working for my BA at Berkeley, 1976. From there I moved into translating for WELLS FARGO BANK, corporate, in San Francisco and from there into property management and commercial real estate in So Cal. and ended up owning one of the largest messenger services in the So Cal area. I practically became a mexican speaking, eating and working with mexicans daily... loved every minute of it. HOLA, ya'll (remember I'm from the south). Of course my major in Spanish did help a lot and I ended up speaking spanish a lot more than english on many days. Work is a primary hub for me and I need to have consistency, reliability, and honesty to be able to deal with the day-to-day. There shouldn't be any pretense, we just need to get the job done. Make haste while the sun shines has been my moto and it still serves me well. Lady luck is my middle name and has sat on my shoulder all my life. I have traveled all of western europe, Japan, Mexico and the Carribbean islands with nary an adverse event. No serious accidents, loss of loved ones or health hazard type experiences. So you could say I'm still pretty fearless and one of these days I'm going to tackle living/traveling to South America and maybe Africa too! Due to my independant streak I was surprised at how much I love being a Mom. Every step of the way has been beautiful and my four children (3 of mine and a step son)and one grand-daughter (12) are such a joy. They are all independant, have great jobs and careers ahead of them, and they still love and care for their parents... how great is that! My southern background graced me with a love of clothing, good food and entertaining so I still like to dress up and look nice. Dinner parties, social cooking and eating is a great way to enjoy friends and neighbors. I learned guerilla entertaining early on and love to entertain. Jeans and sweats are great but looking really neat a...Expand for more
nd sharp is the best! My favorite hobby is still ballroom dancing which is a blast! I won the best student award in my first year of competition dancing and have a great big trophy for it! Tango rules! Pics to post soon. This love got passed on to my daughter Christie who is into jive, jitterbug, salsa and cha cha. Cindy Bond is my oldest living friend We met at Ygnacio our freshman year, she came from Washington and I from Louisiana. She had a big beehive and I had long bangs and long dirty blond hair. We just got along from the first and still click like it was day one. She's so fun, smart and easy going, and hey, 40 something years of constant friendship is hard to come by. Nancy Ostling, also a 40 yrs +, kept in touch friend, is also a WA transplant who arrived at YVHS with big hair and long bangs too, recently replanted in WA, who has kept in touch with her life events. Nancy is a businesswoman using her artistic talents in the publication industry. Polly Masterson's life paralleled mine in almost every way and we followed each other (with our families) all over Europe meeting in Brussels, Barcelona, and Italy for various get-togethers. Polly died in 2003 of cervical cancer that metastasized and spread to the liver killing her painfully but fairly quickly. The last time I saw her, three months before she passed, I drove off knowing that she would be going to heaven soon. I cried for her and prayed for her to go into remission.... my heart still cries for the loss, I miss her. Arlene Lindstedt recently contacted me and I'm thrilled. Have thought about her through the years and can't wait to see her again and reconnect. She used to pick me up in her cute little convertible and give me a ride to school in the mornings... such fun and so much zip. Our hair blew in the wind and the radio blasted us all out.. we were so happy and carefree. How do my friends remember me? I hope they remember me as a loyal, trust-worthy person. I really don't know what they thought or think now but I'm open to comments. GET OUT THE PEN GUYS... LET'S HEAR IT.
