More about Jagtar:"After retiring from the Fire Service I have kept busy and I am a founder member of AFSA and leads on National matters such as consultation, associate members and liaising with key stakeholders of the service. I was born in February 1954 in the Punjab, India and came to England in 1961. Jagtar lived in Birmingham for over 40 years, where he went to school, university and worked for the fire service for over 24 years before moving on to promotion to Biddenham with his family. On achieving a degree in Business Studies at Birmingham Polytechnic, a chance encounter with a recruitment officer led him to join the West Midlands Fire Service in 1977, reaching the rank of Senior Divisional Officer in September 1996. I was appointed Deputy Chief Fire Officer of Bedfordshire and Luton Fire and Rescue Service in May 2001 and acting Chief Fire Officer in the same year I retired from the Fire Service in October 2006 and set up Jagt...Expand for more
ar Singh Associates Ltd. The company has quickly established a reputation for delivering high quality training, conference workshops and cutting edge research. I have worked on contracts for ODPM and more recently for the CLG, The Black Police Association, the NHS and the LGA. In July 2006 I was selected to be a non-executive Director for the East of England Ambulance Service and moved on to be NED in Luton and Dunstable hospital in 2009. In January 2003 I received the Public Servant of the Year award at the Asian Achievement awards ceremony. In June 2003 I was awarded, in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List, an OBE for his work on equality and diversity in the Fire Service. In 2006 I was nominated for the Prestigious GG2 man of the year award. I am active in voluntary work, being a member of the Advisory Group for Common Purpose, Trustee for the Healing Foundation, Employment Opportunities for the Disabled, Bedford Race Equality Council and was until I left WMFS President of the West Midlands Fire Service Romania with Aid. When I have time my other interests include being a season ticket holder of Birmingham City football club and playing cricket for a local team. I am married to Gurjit and have a son Deneal and a daughter Rumandip".
