James (Jim)'s Story
I sure don't want to bore you if you are interested enough to actually be reading this!
Yes, it's true I was forced to leave the Air Force Academy 32 days from graduation. Entertaining, juicy story, would never have happened had I been at a normal college. Did the right thing, turned lemons into lemonade and I can look in the mirror with confidence and integrity intact today. Took another 10 years through Embry-Riddle to finally knock out my degree while serving full time. I retired from the US Air Force after just over 20 years of service. I'm a Desert Storm veteran. I have lived in Germany (two years), Turkey (1 year), and the United Kingdom (nine years). Would you believe I was stationed at three different California bases while on active duty (2 in NorCal, 1 in SoCal).
I am currently (27 May 2013) living in Kabul, Afghanistan, as a government contractor working on the counter narcotics/counter terrorism global support program. When ...Expand for more
not in Kabul I call Springfield, VA home. I dislike the East Coast, but wound up there because I was a financial advisor to military members and Federal employees for 11 years after retirement from the military, and of course DC is where the greatest concentration of Feds are located.
I have a lot of time on my hands when I'm not working here in Kabul (no alcohol allowed, no going off post for obvious reasons, internet that works sporadically at best, living in a 20 foot by 8 foot room with a roommate) so I decided to finally sign up at this website. I'd love to hear from other Class of 81 alums, and if I can ever get back for a reunion, I can entertain you for hours with stories about life experiences. But I'd be more interested in hearing about what has happened to you.
If we knew each other at San Juan High, or if you are part of 85 Best Alive and want to know what life as an enlisted dude was like, feel free to drop me a line!
