Aleen's Story
Life
I was born in Los Angeles on August 13th, in 1950 and attended West Athens Elementary School, Henry Clay Jr. High, and George Washington High. My parents made sure I stayed busy and out of the usual mischief by keeping me musically involved.
While still in high school, I played "Lola" in "Damn Yankees", sang in both the Madrigals and Full Choir and played violin with the Orchestra. I was a member of the "Southwest Youth Symphony Orchestra" and the "Young Americans". During this time I became acquainted with Ken Primus, who was the young man who sang the"Suicide is Painless" theme in the "Mash" film. Teresa Graves and Vickie Lawrence were in group with me before each went on to be in movies and television. It was an exciting, educational and fun time in my life.
In 1968 after graduation My parents and I left California to live the rest of my life in Wilburton, Oklahoma where I attended Eastern Oklahoma State College, Choreographed "110 In The Shade", "Bye Bye Birdie" and and earned an Associate's degree in music.
The intention was to complete two more years at OU in dance and pursue a career in entertainment, but this was sidetracked when I met and married James R. Basile in December of 1970. We had four children-Jonathan in 1972, Debra in 1973, Teresa in 1974, and Roberta in 1977.
From 1981 to mid 1984 I was a disc Jockey for KMCO and KTMC in McAlester, Oklahoma. Additionally I participated in Community musical productions and little theatre....Expand for more
In 1986 James and I were divorced and have remained supportive friends. We had two grandchildren by Teresa- Bradley born in 1992-2009, and Allison born in 2000. Debra gave us a grandson, Hayden in 1994.
Daniel Burgess and I were married on April 24th of 1992, and continue to be. In November of 1998, my mother passed away suddenly and I cared for my father until he passed away July 2nd of 2003.
The farm where I live has been in my family's possession since it was given as an Indian grand of land before statehood. I am the fourth generation to live here and see no change in ownership coming soon. My daughter and granddaughter have an Indian house on the front of the property and will inherit the land when I am gone.
A few of years ago an opportunity to go to Cancun presented itself. It was so beautiful and enjoyable that I repeated the trip several times. Subsequently, another friend invited me to come see Vancouver, British Columbia. Both trips yielded tons of photos and memories. Hopefully, there will more chances to see the world. I particularly love the ocean and warm climates.
Music is still a major part of my life. Many cds of many types of reside in my collection. Other hobbies include sewing, art, photography, computer and internet surfing for ancestry info and images, attending Medieval Fairs, dancing and physical fitness through moderate exercise and water aerobics, weights, and a vegetarian diet. I am still driven by my hobbies!
