James's Story
Life
After graduating from North Central, I attended Washingtin State U. where I received a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1960. I married Sharon Boles (NC class of 1959) in 1959 and have been married for 53 years,plus. . After school, I went to work at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Vallejo, CA. as a nuclear engineer involved in nuclear submarine new construction and overhauls. During 31 years at Mare Island, I was involved in reactor plant testing, fluid systems design, quality assurance work, shipyard radiological training, Shipyard representative for a number of functions and the shipyards head for all emergency planning, drills etc. I was in management for 26 years of my time at Mare Island. ears from 1968 until 1970, I worked for Battelle Northwest in Richland, WA. in quality assurance involved in the building of the Fast Flux Test Facility plutonium research reactor. We have two sons, 10 grand children and 4 great grand children. I have been retired since 1993 and live near Portola CA. at the 5200' elevation on the eastern slopes of the Sierra MTs. I enjoy snowmobiling in the winter and fly fishing, camping in the summer.For the last 22 years I have been the chairman of the board of the Graeagle Community Church.
In 2012, I retired from a local hardware store after working there for 51/2years. I have had health problems the last 2 years which has slowed me down somewhat. But I never give up.
