James's Story
I am a retired high school principal. I graduated from Michigan State University and started teaching at Amelia Earhart Junior High in Detroit Michigan in 1966. I moved to Henry Ford High in 1976 and was science department head, dean of students and assistant principal. I moved to Pershing High School in 1984 as assistant principal. I moved to Anderson Middle School in Berkley, Michigan as assistant principal in 1986. I became the Principal of East Detroit High School in Eastpointe, Michigan in 1992. I move to become the Principal of Utica High School in 1996. I retired in 2001 after five years in Utica. I have come out of retirement 3 times to become the Interim Principal. There was Hillman High School in 2004, Dexter High School 2005 and Hillman again this year. When I retire this June I am finished and will enjoy my time. I am divorced since 1987 and have one daughter, Susan. She is married and living in Royal Oak, Michigan. I have two grandchildren. Matthew age 7 and Maxine age 5. for the Detroit Federation of Teachers, Vice-president of the Michigan Federation of Teachers. I served as President of Macomb County Administrators and a board member of MASSP, Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals. I was a finalist for Michigan High School principal of the year. While at Michigan State I was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity and vice-president of both my Junior and Senior Class. I enjoy fishing reading and travel. I have tent camped in the Amazon Jungle, visited China, Costa Rica, England, Ireland, skied in Italy and Switzerland and the Western United States. I have whitewater kayaked in Idaho and touched whales in Baja, Mexico. I have swam with seals and sharks in the Galapagos Islands. The last trip was a photographic safari to the Serengeti in Tanzania do not ask to see the pictures. I look forward to more travel after this year. I have been with Jane Makulski since 1992 and we own a log home in Hillman on a small private lake. We try and spend a lot of time there. I am also on Facebook.
