James's Story
Life
After high school, I attended Texas A&M for the 1961-62 school year. I worked for the Missouri Pacific RR on a signal gang during the summer of '62. Subsequently attended University of Houston. However, fraternity life interfered greatly with academic life (remember those scenes from Animal House?). I worked in various jobs with The Houston Post (see what happened to them after I left?)from late 1962 until 1969. Karen Bell and I married, but unfortunately (because of my stupidity) we divorced in late 1969. At the same time I left the newspaper and took a job with the University of Texas News and Information Service as their science/technology writer. That lasted for a year until I left for a position as associate editor for a publication called Biomedical News, the offices for which were in McLean, Va. That lasted for a year until the newspaper folded (see what happened when they hired me)I worked for the next five years for the National Society for Medical Research as their publications and public relations director. More importantly, I went back to school in all seriousness and completed my associate of arts degree at a two year junior college in Maryland. I moved to Birmingham, Alabama, in April 197...Expand for more
6 and have been in that city since. I was director of media relations for the University of Alabama at Birmingham for the next 18 years. Oh, the title and job changed a few times, but that is basically what I did. During that period of time, I remarried (1983) and had a great son, James E. Bosarge. We call him Bo. He was born in Dec. 1984, so he just turned 20 and is attending Auburn University. Also of significance was that I earned my baccalaureate degree in 1979 and my Master of Arts in Urban Administration (1991)My wife at that time and I divorced in 1993, and I left the university in 1994. Things weren't great for a while until I decided to attend the Birmingham School of Law. I finished my law degree in 2003, passed the bar in 2004 and am now an honest (I know it sounds like an oxymoron) to goodness attorney at law who takes legal cases and everything. Right now it's family law, probate and some criminal defense work. I married for the third time in 2001. She's an Oklahoma girl who was crazy enough to marry a Texan. Imagine the atmosphere in our home when Texas A&M plays Oklahoma. I also tend to favor Texas when they play Oklahoma, so there is a lot of friendly rivalry going on during football season.
