James's Story

Graduating in '81 was the last time I met most of you. I went to get an Associate in Arts degree from Queensborough Community College in 1984 and then an Bachelor of Arts from St Louis University in St Louis, MO in 1986. Both degrees were in history, with a concentration on American history around the turn of the century (1900, that is!). After that I entered the seminary (not too many Edison grads have done that, I'm sure) and haven't stopped traveling since. I left for Ireland in the summer of '86 and returned to profess my first vows in 1987 as a missionary. I went on to get a Master of Divinity degree from the Washington Theological Union in 1992 and was ordained a Catholic priest in August of that year for the religious congregation of missionaries to which I belong, the Montfort Missionaries. Since then I have worked in parishes in Queens, NY and inner city St Louis, MO. I became fluent in Central American Spanish and have worked since ordination in the preparation of new members in my religious congregation, both here in the States and in Colombia and Nicaragua. From 2004 to ...Expand for more
2007 I served in Nicaragua full-time as a missionary and formation staff person for our community there. I returned to the States in 2007 and was given a year's sabbatical and took up residence at a house of my community in Connecticut, where I presently reside. I work now at the Lourdes in Litchfield Shrine (shrinect.org) as the Assistant Director while also working on a Master of Science degree from the Villanova University School of Business. I am the proud uncle of 4 nieces and 1 nephew. My parents live on Long Island, my brother in New Jersey and my sister is moving to Florida next year. I like to travel (obviously!), read and make contact with old friends: too much time has past without any. I am a die-hard Mac user (have been so since 1984), although I can work on the Dark Side in the Windows world. I am teaching myself how to build web-pages and have done some small scale computer network building. My health is good, although I've had some operations to fix broken and herniated discs in my neck. Get in touch and let me know where some of the other Edison grads from '81 are.
