James's Story

James Waters Brown Jr. passed away January 7,2017 at Hospice House of the Treasure Coast surrounded by family and friends. He was born and raised in Stoughton, Massachusetts on December 6, 1924 to James Waters Brown Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Fleming Brown. He graduated from Stoughton H.S. and the New England School of Art. James served his county most of his working career. After working for Chance Vought Aircraft in Dallas, Texas, he first joined the Army Air Corps during WWII, then the US Air Force working at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and HQ PACAF in Honolulu, Hawaii. After retiring he joined the Civil Service, working for the Marine Corps Headquarters in Arlington, VA. His artistic background was put to work in the graphics departments of both his Air Force and Marine Corps assignments. James loved people, travel, art, bowling and racing. He raced go-karts, painted, and bowled until the age of 91. James was a founding member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Woodbridge, Virginia where he served on the building committee. da after retirement and became long time members of St. Andrew Lutheran Church. He became very active in his close knit community, with social events and serving on the community watch team. He wore the tires off his golf cart. James was predeceased by his first wife Nancy Grenert Brown and his second, Martha Gibson Brown. He is survived by his daughter Sharold Overton (Ray), son James W Brown III, stepdaughters Ruth Gibson Robinson (Mark), and Jeannette Ross Miller (Michael) and five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, many cousins and friends. James was generous to a fault and made friends wherever he ventured. He was a gentle soul and will leave an incredible legacy of giving and kindness. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 2 P.M. at St. Andrew Lutheran Church 295 NW Prima Vista Blvd. Port Saint Lucie, Florida 34983. He will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you make donations to your favorite charity, St. Andrew Lutheran Church or volunteer your time.
