James's Story
Life
A year after graduating M.H.S., got my draft notice. I enlisted for two years in the Army. Then I attended Dutchess Comm. College for Architecture.
Moved to Delaware '81. My Uncle bought a house at the beach, and asked me if I would like to help him fix it up.
Married in '86 to my wife Lucy. Bought a travel trailer, and moved to Orlando, FL. Drove the travel trailer back to DE. '89, because my wife's daughter, and her son, were both expecting their first born.
After that summer, Lucy and I drove cross country to Montclair, CA., on the city line of Pomona, Ca. I wanted to check into the possibly of returning to College to finish my Architectural degree, at California State Polytechnic University Pomona, Ca. Didn't work out, financially.
In '98 five grandchildren later, we drove cross country again back to Delaware. Bought an acre and a half, and a mortgage. Lucy said she's not moving any more, now we have four cats. Maybe I'll try the University of Delaware to finish my degree requirements. Who knows?
Key Biscayne, FL., outside of Miami, is where I would like to buy some land. All I have to do is get up enough money. "Time marches on", Jim B. Que' paso?
School
P.S.13 Yonkers, N.Y. Kindergarden, what a experience. First, someone put sand in a box in the building. That puzzled me, there was plenty of sand outside. Then everone had to take a nap. No one was tired, except the teacher. She sure could holler, when anyone would make some noise.
The recess area was a blacktop fenced in parking lot, with shade only by the building. One day I got beat up, because I was standing in someone's shade spot. The school was down the street from our apartment building. My Mother would walk me to school, then I'd go in the building. Mom would leave, then I would leave. I'd play in the back lot. Returning home when I saw the other kids coming home. I couldn't understand how I got caught for not going to school.
We moved to Mahopac that year. I started at St.John's, the next year, for first grade. Another surreal trip. Smack, on the back of the hand, with a ruler. Can't leave, got bussed here. Sister Mary Geronimo, (St. John's Alumni)give her a hand. At the end of the third grade, I told my parents that I wouldn't go back to St. John's. Something was wrong with that picture. Onward to Mahopac Central School. I guess that I just didn't get along with school. Sorry about...Expand for more
that.
College
Back at school again, after the Army. Time to tighten up, and get back to business. Started in the Architectural Curriculum, a lot of drafting. Did well, 3.3 first semester, 2.93 second semester. Changed curriculum to La Humanities, then I withdrew in good standing. Over loaded, think I needed a rest.
