James's Story
Life
James is a nationally-recognized expert on home building and renovation. James and his business partner/brother Morris share their many years of experience as award-winning, licensed contractors with millions nationwide through a weekly radio program and syndicated newspaper column, both titled ÂOn The House.Â
The Carey Brothers' Associated Press syndicated newspaper column and four-hour radio broadcast offer people money-saving tips on building, remodeling and repairing homes. The column appears in hundreds of newspapers across the country including the San Francisco Chronicle, Chicago Tribune, Cleveland Plain-Dealer, San Diego Union-Tribune, and New Orleans Times-Picayune.
The Careys most recently appeared as the home improvement editors on CBS News Saturday Morning. Prior to that, they ended a two-plus year run with the Family Channel's Home and Family program.

to own and operate a successful home remodeling and construction firm, Carey Bros.
In addition to his syndicated column, James has co-authored with his brother three how-to books, Cost-Effective Home Upgrades, published by Ortho Books, 1992; Home Remodeling For Dummies, published by IDG Books Worldwide, 1998; and Home Maintenance For Dummies, also published by IDG Books Worldwide, 2000.
James resides in Brentwood, CA, with Carol, his wife of 20 years, and their three children ranging in age from 2 to 17.
James is a former member of the City of Antioch Planning Commission and Design Review Board. He is the founding President of the Contra Costa Chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, Past President of the Los Medanos Community Hospital Foundation and a trustee of the Vincent A. Davi Memorial Scholarship Foundation for which he is a recipient.
James enjoys golf, traveling and camping.
