Jim's Story
I finished high school and started Memphis State that summer. Failed miserably. I was working two jobs, dating and trying to attend school. Instead of being drafted, I joined the Air Force in March 1966.
Spent 22 years in the Air Force achieving a rank of Chief Master Sergeant (E-9). I started out in aircraft maintenance, moving into data automation in 1972. During my time in the Air Force, I managed to complete a BS in Computer Science in 1985. Retired from the Air Force in 1988.
Then spent over 30 years as a government contractor in various leadership and management roles. Earned a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI).
Married in 1972, divorced in 2002. Married in 2009 to Janet Hataway Coker. I have a son from my first mar...Expand for more
riage, and he has two children. Janet has a son from her first marriage. Janet is a very creative person, working in various mediums. Her specialty is Cross Stitch needle work.
I have been fortunate in my life. I have seen most of our United States. I have been in Canada, the Philippines, Vietnam (briefly), Mexico and a fair bit of Europe and England. I even went through Check Point Charlie in Berlin during the Cold War. We have great kids and a good life. We are truly blessed.
I retired in 2019. We live in a community about 45 miles north of Atlanta. Our home is on a nice golf course, and I manage to play 2-3 times a week. My goal is to shoot my age, but may have to play into my 90’s to make that possible.
Janet and I are Christians, proud Americans and love our country deeply.
