James's Story

I was different in many ways from my peers in Redford Twp. I was the DJ in the lunchroom at Redford Union until one day, Mr. Rogers, Assistant Principal came running in, spit flying from his mouth and hollering, "You're not gonna disrespect the country I fought for!" This, because I was playing Jimi Hendrix' Star Spangled Banner. Fashion was paramount for me. I loved clothes from the '40's and '50's and eccentric rock band stage clothes. I managed a rock band which performed original music in the "fusion" vein. My lead guitar player, Jim Wahlers was phenomenal as well as my bass player, Fernando Saunders and my drummers, Greg Carter and Eric Brown. This was an incredible band. I rented the Redford Ice Arena on Beech-Daly Rd. to put them in concert there. I also put on a Battle of the Bands at Redford Theater. I was the first to rent this theater for a music concert. Roger Carver's band won this contest. I consider myself an artist in many aspects. Still am today. My favorite venues are oil painting and writing. Though I'm not limited to these venues alone. I was a person who frequented the inner city of Detroit and this had a strong influence on me. I graduated from Northern High School in Detroit as I was forced to leave Redford Union because I lived out of the district. This would've happened much earlier if the administration had discovered that I lived out of the district the entire time I attended high school. But my intention was to remain in Redford Union with the classmates I knew from elementary, Jr. High and then in High School -- but my plan was disrupted and I had no choice but to acquiesce to the whims of the powers that be. I later moved to Naples, FL where I had a successful property management company. I married a Jamaican lady and have one son, my Jr. from her. I got into some trouble because of my own foolishness and this caused me to lose everything -- my wi...Expand for more
fe, my business, even my freedom. I thereafter immediately concentrated on everything positive that I could and prepared myself for another chapter in my life, free from the burdens that bound me in the 1st Chapter of my life. I moved to Miami where I remained until 2009, when my life-long friend and mentor asked me to come back to Detroit to help him with some business ventures he was working on and I agreed. Now, I'm back in Detroit and working on a variety of business pursuits. At this time, I will remain here and work on these projects which I expect will be successful. I am currently attending college classes at WCCCD both the Northwest & Downtown campuses. I will graduate summer 2016 with an Associate of Arts degree, then I plan to transfer to Wayne State University. I am going to major in Law. I am currently a paralegal and working for 3 attorneys on an independent free-lance basis. I hope to continue until I become an attorney. I had my first office in a law firm at 18 yrs. of age. I also am starting a line of clothing called James 2-tone. I've designed the first pair of pants and the prototype is due out in Fall,, 2016. These pants feature a "French pleat" down the outer pant-legs, with a hand-stitch. They are quite unique. I was influenced by a pair of pants I used to wear when younger that were baggy, pleated pants with the "French pleat" on the outer pant-legs. This pair of pants were vintage from the 1950's and were one of the most unique pairs of pants I've ever owned. I changed the coloring dynamics to incorporate the 2-tone design and I believe the pants will cause somewhat of a sensation and be in demand. I am also currently writing a book about fashion in Detroit. You can see from the photograph I've posted that I am a Volvo enthusiast. Indeed, I have 2 nicknames; Dressy-James & Volvo-James!!! I'm sometimes also known as "Dictionary" for my prowess as a word-smith.
