James's Story
Life
I left Ledyard immediately after graduation for basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia. I have been an Infantryman for over 19 years now. These past 19 years have been a blast. I have been stationed in FT Carson Co. Where believe it or not I ran into a fellow classmate "Mike" can't remember his last name. From there I was transferred to Panama, with the 5th BN 87th Infantry (L). I participated in operation "Just Cause". There again I met a fellow LHS classmate. He only went there a short time. Or so he says. I did not remember him. Spent a lot of time drunk back then so that may be why I don't. I made a short stop over in Watertown, NY home of the famous 10th Mountain Division. After FT Drum I was off to Schweinfurt, Germany for five years. From here my life really took off. Not bad it only took 8 years for me to figure out what I wanted out of life and the military. It was there that I met my beautiful wife. She is German and is the greatest person in the world. We dated for several years before she finally asked me to marry her in 1997. We both knew that is what we wanted but again I am a little on the slow side sometimes.

bought a house and settled down in a place called Phenix City AL. We have two sons Ryan (6) and Evan (4), both of them play Ice hockey and roller Hockey. My wife works as a Senior Business analyst for a company called Total Systems. I left the Army in 1999 from Fort Benning, to be with my family and to go to college. I have almost completed my MIS degree. In 2003 I was lucky enough to be hired on as a member of the Alabama Army National Guard in a fulltime Status. Basically back on Active Duty.
At some point my wife and I picked up sailing as a way of relaxing and spending time together and it took off. We sail as much as time will permit. My boys love it, both of them have been on a boat for as long as they can remember and I hope to keep it that way.
This past Nov (04) I was activated for deployment to Iraq, after 5 months at Fort Stewart, GA we deployed to Iraq, where we (my platoon, I am an infantry platoon, Platoon Sergeant.) have spent the past 5 months in the southeastern corner of the triangle of death. My platoon has performed better than I ever imagined. I am here with 37 of the finest soldiers the army has ever produced.
