James's Story
After graduation from CHS I attended Southeastern College in Lakeland, FL intending to become an elementary school teacher. Due to financial difficulties (I ran out of money ;-p), I dropped out after three years and became a licensed embalmber and worked at Dukes-Steen Funeral Home in Lakeland. In September 1965 I met my wife, Emma Sue Conerly, from Screven County, GA, who was also attending Southeastern and we eloped on January 1, 1966. We just recently celebrated our 46 wedding anniversary. I joined the US Air Force in May 1966 and served for 24 years, including a tour in Viet Nam in 1972. We have three children: James Anthony. (Tony) Harris, 28 Jan 69; Kevin Mark Harris, 28 Sep 71; Cindy Suzanne Harris (Miller), 19 Dec 72. We have five grandchildren.

ce. Since retirement I have had several positions within the IT field with varied companies including ComputerLogic, Macon, GA, Abacus Technologies, Robins AFB, GA, and currently as a System Administrator with BASF Corporation as a member of the Southeast Regional Infrastructure Team. It is my intention to finally retire this spring and do some fishing and woodworking and honey do's for a good long time. During my Air Force career we moved 13 times in 24 years, so I have been enjoying living in one place since 1985 here in Warner Robins. I want to see about getting a part time job with one of the local funeral homes as an attendant after I retire to say busy and supplement my income a little. That will be full circle for me since I started out married live at a funeral home (we actually lived in the funeral home in an apartment above the garage where the hearse was parked). Life has been good for me. God has been good to me.
