James's Story

After a few false starts, everything is pretty good. On my third marriage. Married Katie Otte (a year behind us) She convinced me to quit college. Stupid. Her - for asking. Me - for listening. That didn't last long. Second marriage was to a girl from Jasonville. It lasted almost 13 years. Gave me two wonderful kids. Now 27 and 22. She also cost me $30,000 in court costs and lost child support, but I ended up with full custody and all rights, so it was worth it. Met "the one" and married her in 1997. We will hit the 16-year mark in January. Gave me two great step-kids. They are now 27 and 19. Three kids are enrolled in college right now. One became a doctor in May. There have been set-backs for a couple, but we are proud of them all. Our grandson was born in March of 2010. Can't describe that feeling We had to put down our last remaining dog last fall. She had a good run, though. Smartest dog I ever had. She understood over 30 words plus she comprehended facial expressions and head movements. We miss her. I've been 24+ years with the Post Office delivering mail to the rural areas around Bedford in beautiful southern Indiana. I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the 35th reunion. Planned on it but a close friend's wedding was too important to miss. I went to the 5th, though. The band didn't show up so I supplied the music from my $400 stereo system out of the back of my $200 car. Music was more important than transportation back then. It still is important. When I graduated from South I had 500 8-track tapes. I sold them all and had enough money to buy 40 records, I've been bui...Expand for more
lding my collection ever since. (Granted, I took a 20 year break raising kids and living life, but I'm back into it.) I now have about 4000 LPs plus some 45s, cassettes, 78s and even a few 8-tracks. I'm going to start an online record store before I retire. Right now I buy stereo equipment from the 70s and the 80s, check it out, clean it up and resell it on ebay. With the kids gone, I have a room dedicated to music and a workshop in the garage. That's more than I have written about myself in many years - combined. I've never even been on facebook. I love the internet, but I'm not much of a "social" person. I never write letters (even though I've delivered a million of them). I don't even talk on the phone much. I'm more of a face-to-face kinda guy. I'm trying to change. I don't know how much of the past I will reconnect with (I know, I shouldn't end with a preposition), but I guess it's time to remind myself of where I came from (shush). Please don't be offended if I don't remember all of you. It may take me a bit to put it all back together. Sometimes it takes a name. Sometimes a face. Some times it takes both. I'm sure there will be a few I won't recollect at all. Sorry. I was a bit of a partyer towards the end of my High School experience, so bear with me. I've seen a few names on here of those that know what I'm talking about. :) This is the way I see it, I am happy where I am and especially glad who I'm with, so all the wrong turns I thought I made were just God's way of teaching me how to become the man He knew I could be and that brought me to be happy with who I am today.
