James (Randy)'s Story
After graduation from undergraduate school, I attended officers candidate school for the US Navy and became an officer on a destroyer. I attended law school on a naval scholarship and did two tours as a Navy JAG officer. I then briefly practiced law in Chicago before returning to Michigan to teach at the university level and practice litigation. I practiced law for 34 years with the last 14 in international law. I still teach law and political science at Ithaca College and Cornell University. Along the way, I also acquired an MBA from Dartmouth College and a Ph.D. from Wayne State. I now teach as an adjunct and write fiction. the civil war in Nepal in 2007, the rise of radical Islam on Mindanao Island in the Philippines in 2007, the assassination of Benizar Bhutto in Pakistan in 2007/8, the war in Afghanistan in 2008, I embedded with FARC in Colombia in 2008, covered the civil war in Sri Lanka in 2009 and 2010 and the civil uprising in Bangladesh in 2010..
I live in downtown Ithaca along the shore of Lake Cayuga with my 85 lb white standard poodle, Che Guevara.
UPDATE: (May 2019)
Most recently I purchased a Southern Cross 38 foot sailboat named "Endless Summer". She is being transited from Key Largo to her new home in Christiansted, St. Croix, USVI. I live aboard her now with my dogs Che and Mandy. Obviously, I no longer teach but write primarily fiction full time. I would love to hear from fellow classmates. and should you ever be in the USVI, please email at drjohn randall at g mail I seldom see anyone from Michigan anymore and would love to catch up with former Bobcats!
