James's Story
Well, where to start?
First off you won’t find me in the yearbook anywhere even though I was there for all 3 years and was on the Winter and Spring Track teams each year. Why? Because way back when I wasn’t into the whole High School experience. Never got a class ring; never bought the yearbook. So I never showed up for pictures. Back then I was into music, fishing, hockey and hanging out with my friends. I am trying to find some pictures of me from that time period to post because looking at me now you might not remember me, because then I had blond very curly hair (it went straight as it went grey). My best friends in High School were Jimmy Johnson, Gary Begin and Chris Scotti.
Graduated Brentwood High in 1973 and went off to SUNY Farmingdale where I got my Associates degree in Computer Science, then I went to NYIT were I got my BS in Computer Science. I went to work for Sperry and then later AIL Systems which, thorough a number of mergers and acquisitions is now called ITT Exelis. I rose through the ranks so that now I am a Senior Manager and am in charge of the SW Engineering Department. Along the way I lead the development teams for a number of very successful programs, and was...Expand for more
given a number of awards for innovation.
As for my personnel life I married a sweet girl named Dianne in 1978. We bought a house in 1980 in Medford where we raised three children; the first, a girl in 1982 followed by a son in 1985 and another daughter in 1989. The eldest is a CPA, my son is another Computer Programmer and the baby is looking for work in her field of publishing. Kept up with my musical ambition post High school and was in a number of rock bands but never quite made it, finally giving up trying to be a rock star in 1980. I kept running non-competitively till 2010 when it became too painful because of my hip; which probably was due to all the years of playing hockey in pickup leagues. For 22 years I was also a Travel Soccer Coach for the Newfield Soccer Club coaching 3 different travel teams. Overall I had a 65% win ratio and a number of my teams were division champions including two undefeated seasons. One team also won what was then called the Walbaums Cup in our age bracket (Go Jaguars!). Lastly, when I was 49 I became a Buddhist and it has brought me a lot of peace to my quite hectic life and made me a calmer person. So that’s a mouthful for now. Be happy and well.
