James's Story

Life Lynn and I are remarkably still married and living in Florida. Throughout most of my career, extensive travel was common so I actually have only been home about 20 years. Lynn completed her nursing training and actually returned for additional training at the U of Penn Nursing School where she earned a Nurse Practitioner degree in gynecology. We have two kids, one of each and 4 and 1/2 grandkids, one more on the way. While we spent most of our adult lives in the northeast, we rarely found anyone from our RHS days and with few exceptions, did not see many folks after the 20th reunion in 1983. In the last few years, thanks to Classmates, we have found some old friends now scattered all over the country. Recently, news of a 45th reunion got us both excited about seeing some old friends hopefully next spring. If you have not been back to Ridgewood in recent years, it is quite a changed little community with a bustling restaurant and bar scene downtown. The only bars I remember were in NY state, about 20 minutes from home! On a personal note, Lynn is still blond and I am still short, but happy to be alive and enjoying everything we can. We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary earlier this year and we are planning an actual celebration with friends and family this December. There is a lot to remember after 50 years and much more when you include highschool where we met. Like many of the class of '63, we attended the 50th graduation party weekend in Ridgewood. It was great to see folks from our class. Let's hope we have a 55th! While many may believe life in Florida should be close to some sort of paradise, it is in many ways, but other joys of life are missing. So much to my surprise, Lynn suggested we think about moving to NC perhaps. That would allow simpler access to our kids and grandkids for one thing. So we are in the process of some exploration. FL real estate has improved, but we have not made it back to 2005 when we first moved here. So, probably in the next couple months we will start our NC exploration. Should be fun. ter 15 years in the Sunshine state, Lynn and yes, I can go too, are moving to Cary, NC, just outside Raleigh. We will be quite near 2 other more famous RHS folks, Maureen Kelly and Kathy Wynn. We may be close enough to adversely effect their property value. I never thought Lynn would ever move farther north again, but we decided it would be better if we were only a 1 day drive to our son in NJ or our daughter outside Indy. After unsuccessfully trying to sell our home for 2 years, out of the blue a buyer from Boston found us and made an offer good enough to accept. With no prospects in sight and with our current worldwide mess, we had not been looking for a place to buy. We had no time to do that now but we found an acceptable rental that will have to do for a year. Then we can decide what to do next. We have spent the last several weeks tossing stuff we don't need and Lynn has sold all kinds of furniture, pots, pictures, etc online. I had to hide my underwear before she sold all my dainties. So, it is the end of May and will be in NC before the end of June. We hope everyone is safe and healthy and offer our best wishes to remain so. March 2, 2021: hopefully all of us have had at least one vaccine shot, both in our case. While great to have this done, life hasn't changed much. We did have 1 grandchild infected with covid last year, but it wasn't too severe and no one else got sick. In another week, Lynn and I will be heading to FL to visit with our vaccinated friends. Hope everyone is safe and resuming family life as we used to enjoy it!! Jim/Lynn After renting for 2 plus years, we finally found a new permanent residence in Youngsville, just north of Raleigh. As Margey Woodall recently observed: "You're 77 YO! Why are you moving??!!" Good question. Just tired of renting and feeling temporary. It was not easy to find something we liked during the housing frenzy. Finally we just had to compromise and moved from a town of 170,000 to one of less than 2500. Feels like boondocks but not too far from Raleigh. May not be our final move, but will do for awhile!
