Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude." Denis Waitley "A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty." Winston Churchill "Fear not those who argue but those who dodge." Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach "A government big enough to give you everything you want is strong enough to take everything you have" Thomas Jefferson "If I had to make a general rule for living and working with children, it might be this: be wary of saying or doing anything to a child that you would not do to another adult, whose good opinion and affection you valued." John Holt "the whole educational and professional training system is a very elaborate filter, which just weeds out people who are too independent, and who think for themselves, and who don't know how to be submissive, and so on -- because they're dysfunctional to the institutions." - Noam Chomsky "School days, I believe, are the unhappiest in the whole span of human existence. They are full of dull, unintelligible tasks, new and unpleasant ordinances, and brutal violations of common sense and common decency." H.L. Mencken "A child educated only at school is an uneducated child." George Santayana "Nothing enrages me more than when people criticize my criticism of school by telling me that schools are not just places to learn maths and spelling, they are places where children learn a vaguely defined thing called socialization. I know. I think schools generally do an effective and terribly damaging job of teaching children to be infantile, dependent, intellectually dishonest, passive and disrespectful to their own developmental capacities." Seymour Papert "If you bungle raising your children, I don't think whatever else you do well matters very much." Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis "Having children makes you no more a parent than having a piano makes you a pianist." Michael Levine Life is too short to wake up with regrets. ♥ So love the people who treat you right. ♥ Forget about the one's who don't. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said life would be e...Expand for more
asy, they just promised it would be worth it. "Children who are treated with respect are respectful of others. Children who are listened to as equals listen to others as equals. Children whose opinions are valued value others' opinions. A family where parents and children are allies is a peaceful family." Rue Kream "Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys" P.J. O'Rourke “Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.” Winston Churchill "Unthinking respect for authority is the greatest enemy of truth." Albert Einstein "When we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness - and call it love - true love." Robert Fulghum "A tax-supported, compulsory educational system is the complete model of the totalitarian state." Isabel Paterson “Learning can only happen when a child is interested. If he’s not interested it’s like throwing marshmallows at his head and calling it eating.” Barbara Lamping "Of course, a child may not know what he may need to know in ten years (who does?), but he knows, and much better than anyone else, what he wants and needs to know right now, what his mind is ready and hungry for. If we help him, or just allow him, to learn that, he will remember it, use it, build on it. If we try to make him learn something else, that we think is more important, the chances are that he won't learn it, or will learn very little of it, that he will soon forget most of what he learned, and what is worst of all, will before long lose most of his appetite for learning anything." John Holt "Educating a child is a natural process. Home schooling is nothing more than an extension of parenting." Sue Maakestad "The only time my education was interrupted was when I was in school." - George Bernard Shaw “I've never let my school interfere with my education.” - Mark Twain Disobedience is the true foundation of liberty. The obedient must be slaves." ~ Henry David Thoreau "Education is what remains after one has forgotten everything he learned in school." ~ Albert Einstein "The anxiety children feel at constantly being tested, their fear of failure, punishment, and disgrace, severely reduces their ability both to perceive and to remember, and drives them away from the material being studied into strategies for fooling teachers into thinking they know what they really don't know. ~John Holt". More about James:"We are the parents of 2 great kids, Kevin, 8 and Sammy, 4, both intact and unvaxed. We work from home so we spend 24/7 as a family. We home school as well so our kids have never been away from us. They go to bed when we do and sleep in the family bed. We often get criticism for this but we feel that they are growing and flourishing in a rich, natural environment with the people who love them most. It is how children were raised for tens of thousands of years before the failed experiment called the public school system institutionalized education and the process of learning by forcing kids to sit in uncomfortable chairs in prisons called classrooms for six to seven hours a day by prison guards called teachers.".
