James's Story

Life I graduated from Monmouth College in 72 and married Judi (class of 70), my high school sweetheart. After teaching for 3 years (Monroe Twp and Colonia HS) I entered the USAF. I retired as a Colonel and Director of Security Forces for Air Force Space Command, US Space Command and the North American Aerospace Command in 2002. We have two great children, James (30, an army vet, culinary school student, our granddaughter Kisella and Mary, 29 and a college graduate and manager with the Navy Lodge program. We live in Winter Haven, FL and run my own consulting company as well as part time consulting for Honeywell Technology School My biggest crush is my wife of 41 years...Judi Frantz! My most inspiring teachers..Mr Silver and Mr Reilly. Would I do it all over again...ABSOLUTELY! Way too many crazy memories...to recount...best done over a few brews. I always wanted to be a doctor when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea idea. As it turns out, they were wrong. Set up my drums and go to town Unfortunately on 20 October my Judi (class of 1970) passed away from complications due to breast cancer. Needless to say I am heartbroken as she was my life for over 45 years, Please keep her in your prayers. Since that time time I have been involved with our Lake Ashton Community Development District as an elected state representative and board Vice Chairman. I have also formed my own LLC, Mecsics & Associates in which I do law enforcement, security and public safety consulting for both domestic and international governments. My daughter is the General Manager at the US Navy's Navy Lodge at the USN's Great Lakes Training Center and doing extremely well and my son is touring with his band, the Prophets of Addiction where he is the drummer (figure that and guess who taught him). I had a liver transplant a month and a half ago and on the way to recovery (all doctors very happy). They attributed my liver problems to my exposure to many different chemicals in my military career....rather than alcohol consumption as I was never a big drinker. Oh well, as the doctor said everything else was good with you. It is a mir...Expand for more
acle as the Good Lord and my guardian angel Judi watched over this crazy Hungarian. If you are ever in the Orlando area give me a shout....would like to see members of the class of 68! I have my full story on LinkedIn.com if you can't go to sleep;) Mending well and getting back to my former self...hhhmmm...maybe not a good thing;) My new project is creating an on line radio station for my community...Lake Ashton 101.5. For those of you who are either in New Jersey or remember radio...101.5 New Jersey FM. I retained that as a tribute to my roots. It will be music from the 40's to the 80's (with a special emphasis on the 60's) ...I will even have a request hour for high school classes...and guess which one will be first. Anyway standby for the ip address. I was blessed with a new Granddaughter on Mother's Day, Maya Judith Mayra Mecsics Buss. Now there is a mouthful. Both my daughter Mary and Maya are doing very, very well. Went out to Chicago for it...what a great gift. She too will become a drummer like her cousin Ella, her Uncle Jimmy and Grandpop! Things in Winter Haven still rolling along. Playing with some friends in a 60's and 70's band....guess what I play. Nothing formal but we do have a local following. My recovery keeps on getting better. Hope all is well with you all! Since my last update...my son Jimmy is now the drummer with "Pretty Boy Floyd" a very popular 80's hair/glam band and is on tour as well as cutting CD's! I am so proud of him. My daughter Mary continues on in her successful career as well as being a great Mommy to a now..crawling and soon to be walking 10 month old. I'm officially forming a local back up group called the "LA Wrecking Crew" (in honor of the real "wrecking crew" who did most of the instruments on many groups...like the Beach Boys, etc. Actually got to meet the drummer, Hal Blaine many years ago) of very talented musicians (wish I was one of the talented ones) who primarily back up many of the great vocalists we have here as well as doing some things on our own. We're still in the formation phase but have a lot of interest. So looking forward to our reunion in September!
