James's Story
Hello to all who lumbered thru the halls and classrooms at ACHS.
After graduation I spent a year at Ventura then a junior college what ever that meant and then became a piece of the Army. Serving in Vietnam as a Combat Engineer. Rotated home as a Communications Chief. The highlight of my tour was being able to do 10 days of hospital shows in Da Nang in December of ‘68.. Bought a beat up Gibson from a fellow going home which made that possible. With a stop at Fort Ord I finished my stint in Germany.
Returned home to a world that had changed.
A degree in Theatre Arts set me on a path that took me to San Francisco to work at the Magic Theatre where I got to rub elbows with up and coming playwrights and actors some of whom enjoyed great success in Hollywood and on Broadway.
With 10 partners we created a production company that enjoyed a year of success until our bookkeeper made off with the money.
I’d met and married an actress during this period and had our first son.

ked my way into a high end cabinet shop and believed I’d left the theatre behind. A couple of years later we moved to Alaska where the first job I was offered was working for a theatre company. Over the next 20 years we had a second son and over saw the production of maybe a 100 shows that included several original scripts including a musical with singing and dancing sled dogs.
To pay the bills I worked on the side as a carpenter/cabinet maker. I also much to everyone’s amazement became a woodcarver.
At the end of this period my wife and I divorced. I slowly began moving south, living in Port Townsend ,Washington where I met my future second wife and then Portland, Or where I became a general contractor.
I’ve finally maybe retired although I’m convinced I’ll have to work 6 days after I’m dead to break even.
We moved to Georgia to be near my youngest and his wife. The elder son and his wife are in California and that’s a place I can’t afford.
Would enjoy hearing from you.
