James's Story

After graduation I remained working in the Quad Cities for 8 years in the construction field as a carpenter. In 1980 I moved to Ft. Lauderdale and remained in the construction field. I met some very interesting people and in 1981 I helped a friend finish his 48 ft sailboat and we set sail for St. Thomas V.I. I was gone for aprox. 6 mo.over in the Islands living the life. I returned and started back into being a carpenter again. The following year I returned to St. Thomas for 2 mo. to help rebuild the sailboats engine so we could sail on another adventure, but that did not work out. So back to the states. In 1986 I got married.....I started with the Broward County school Board in 1989 as a carpenter I have always enjoyed the outdoors and hunting, so my friends introduced me to Deer and Duck hunting. We duck hunted up on Lake Okeechobee and Deer hunted in the Glades. I did better at the Duck hunting. I have gone out gator hunting several times and found that to be quite a rush. Got a couple nice ones. And yes they do taste like chicken. I realized the beauty of the Everglades and ended up having an air...Expand for more
boat built. A real good friend of mine burnt there old camp down in the Everglades and built a two story camp in it place which I helped finish. It is something you would never imagine. Better than some peoples houses. I ended up getting into my own camp which we are fixing up cosmetically. We have 4 bunk beds and a single bedroom for privacy. It is 1000 sq. ft and very enjoyable to just go out and forget about the world and enjoy nature. We have everything out there that your house has. Can't do without AC in the summer. So on my time off I usually will be found out at camp relaxing. The only access to the camp is by airboat or full track when it dries up (which is for approx.3 months) During all this time I became a foreman for Zone 3 and 4 at the school board. I am incharge of a satellite office in southwestern Broward County which maintains about 50 schools. My daughter graduated High school this year (2009) and she will be furthering her education this fall. So far Life has been good and full of adventures for me and My family. I hope everyone has had a wonderful 35 plus years after high school.
