James's Story
I graduated from Shoreline in 1961. My first job was with Food Giant on 175th and Aurora. I left there after a year and went to work as a Switchman for the Great Northern Railway. This was probably my favorite job in my entire working career.
I decided to go to College in 1964 and started at Everett Junior College in April of that year. I got my AA in Chemistry in 1966 and then went on to Central Washington State College in the Fall of 1966. I ultimately Graduated from Central in August, 1972 with a stint in the United States Navy in the middle. I was a Storekeeper stationed at NAVCOMSTA HONO in Wahiawa, Oaho, Hawaii. I completed my schooling with a BA in Chemistry and a BA in Business Administration specializing in Accounting and a Minor in Biology. My career ultimately was in Accounting with several positions such as Bank Auditor, Corporate Auditor, Division Controller, Assistant Controller and Controller. I retired from Pacific American Commercial Company, a Heavy Equipment Sales and Rental Company, as Assistant Controller in June 2007.
My Wife Kathy and I had two children, Gary and Steven and now have 6 Grand Children and another on the way, due March, 2012. My Wife and I were married in the LDS 8th Ward Chapel in North Seattle in June, 1968 and just celebrated our 43rd Anniversary. We have been on a Cruise to the Caribbean in 2004 and two trips to Europe, one in 2009 and the other in 2011. We visited London, England, Paris, France and Barcelona, Spain.
My hobbies are Fishing, Sports, Kayaking, Biking, Hot rods, N Scale Model Railroad, Drag Racing, Leather Tooling, Yard Work, Genealogy and Travel. etc. I like most everything.
My favorite Sports teams are the New York Yankees, Boston Celtics, Green Bay Packers and Montreal Canadians.
My all time favorite Athletes were Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Elgin Baylor, Guyle Fielder and Jimmy Brown.

I find working with my various hobbies as being great ways to relieve stress in my life
I always wanted to be a Chemist when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were wrong, I never got to do it.
Yes I have a hero, Mickey Mantle, He dealt with Bone Health issues all his life, having to heavily wrap his legs with bandages just to cope with the pain. He was a especially gifted Athlete who accomplished a lot in his life. At the same time he learned through the school of hard knocks that YOU can not reach YOUR true ability if YOU don't put out the effort. Life in general teaches YOU lessons.......Mickey learned his too late. Probably one of the most gifted Athletes who realized HE could have been the best.....but got sidetracked with the wrong things in life......and paid a price....his life.
The persons from my past who I'd most like to see again are My Parents and In laws, because I really miss them.
My current age is 69. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be Ancient. I was so completely wrong...i don't feel different at all.
My best friend would tell you I'm Fun Loving, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as shy and quiet.
My childhood memories are of playing on the logged off hill across from where I grew up on 148th and 8th NE, fishing in the creeks, frog hunting and playing on Jackson Golf Course. Later when Ridgecrest was developed getting lick-im aid, candy, Balsam Fold Wing Gliders and giant balloons at the Dime Store and the Saturday Matinees at the Ridgecrest Theater. I loved to go to Paramount Park Elementary and play basketball everyday after school with my best buddies - Jim Larson (Lars), Dave King and Greg Dimmitt. The many fun times WE had playing pranks on one another. I really miss all of this.
