James's Story

Life I was married most of my adult life, but now I am ECSTATICALLY HAPPILY TWICE DIVORCED WITHOUT ANY KIDS. Truthfully, if I had found the right person, it would have been fun to have a few kids. I love interacting with my Niece's, Nephew, assorted Cousins, and other kids when I'm doing my unicycling, juggling, clowning performances. (That's another story for another time!) Lately, I tell everyone that my greatest feeling of pride and accomplishment is from when I got the priviledge of teaching my young Cousin how to ride a bike. For two days, I ran beside her holding her waist and the handlebars, and her not being able to balance AT ALL! On the third day (July 2, 2008) she was balanced so I let go... and off she went! At that moment, she was THE HAPPIEST PERSON ON EARTH, laughing, smiling, shouting with joy! Me too! School Biggest crush? Coincidentally enough, it was two girls with the same initials (TM). I'll tell you that the Angel in New Jersey was (and still is) Terri McCune although infortunately she transitioned to an Angel in Heaven on April 14, 1978. I miss her DAILY. The other, who captured my interest in Hollywood Elementary, and kept it through Beltsville Junior High, Parkdale High and beyond should be easy enough to guess! She will no doubt remember me always whistling from my backyard as she walked up the street on her way home from school. I was pretty much too shy to even talk to someone like her who was "so out of my league." Although I DISTINCTLY REMEMBER when our class exchanged Valentine's Cards (6th grade?) in our shoe boxes we all made, I received the greatest card EVER from her that said, "YOU'RE MY MAIN ATTRACTION. WILL YOU BE MY VALENTINE?" I'd pay BIG BUCKS to have that card today! Am I naive by choosing to think I was the only guy in class to get that message on a Valentine's Card? Waa! Waa! SHE LIKED ME THE BEST!!!!! Military Completed...Expand for more
20 years and 2 weeks and officially retired from the U.S. Navy on August 31st, 2006. To think a movie like 1986's TOP GUN could cause a person to enlist in the Navy and find a career... Hey, I'm not the only one. There was quite a surge in recruitment in 1986 BECAUSE OF TOP GUN! I can't remember a single bad day; infact it was so incredible to tour (on four different ships) Gibraltar, Ireland, France (Villefranche, Nice, Cannes, Paris, etc!!!), Italy, Spain, Egypt (Pyramids!!!), Isreal (Haifa, Bethlehem), Greece (Crete), Cyprus, Turkey, Russia, Arabian Gulf, Bahrain, all of South America (skiing in the Andes of North and South Chile was just AMAZING!!!), superbly patriotic Bristol, Rhode Island where I got to march in their Independence Day Parade 7/4/2001, three years each of Instructor duty in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and San Diego, countless trips to the Carribean, and lots of other places that I'd write about, except I'm nearly out of ink!!! Back in BEAUTIFUL Maryland now, reconnecting with so many relatives that I haven't been able to see much of during those 20 years... Thank you CLASSMATES.COM for making it easy to track down a friend I last saw or heard from in 1974. We had a PERFECT reunion in Nov 08 and she and her wonderful kids are now happily in my friend column again. I feel drawn to the past and I hope I can connect with more of the girls and guys who were important "Back Then." To all who were interested enough to read all of these ramblings, have a TERRIFIC minute/hour/day/week/month/season/year/decade/life. It's always cool when some of your names - even some of you who you wouldn't think we even knew each other - pass thru my brain. I wish you well! I am a member of Classmates because I am sentimental, and I'd love to hear from any and all from my past. As shy as I was in the old days, a lot of you ladies never knew that I held Secret Crushes for you. ;-) jim
