James's Story

Spent sophomore and junior years (61-63) at Lincoln in SF, but family moved to Belmont for my senior year. In spite of that, appeared at Lincoln so often that years later as Lincoln reunion treasurer (10 year and 20 year), people were surprised I graduated from Carlmont, not Lincoln! College of San Mateo for two years, SF State for one year, married high-school sweetheart Marion Wiwel. Took a break for the Navy (USS Chicago -- CG-11, Radarman), then continued at SF State. Degree in accounting. Worked for a while at Toy Village on West Portal. While working for the Board of Equalization (sales & use tax -- Franchise is that other tax agency), Marion and I had two boys. Just after son #2 graduated from Serra High School in San Mateo, I took an exec job with the Board in Sacramento. We've lived in Folsom since ...Expand for more
then. Marion is a litigation secretary (with some time in at Touche Ross, then Deloitte and Touche) and I retired from the Board after 32 years as Executive Director. I've since gone to the "dark side" working as a consultant for multi-state sales & use tax taxpayers. Our now-in-Oregon son and his wife have blessed us with two granddaughters, and our local son and his wife two grandsons. Life is good! Work since "retirement" has been fun. It morphed from state and local tax consulting with a four-person firm to state and local tax consulting for a 22-person firm PLUS a second firm providing IT support for the first along with info related projects for tax clients. For travel fun, we've been through various places in Europe, but we fell in love with Turkey. Well, that's enough of us. How about your story?
