Debby's Story
Life
Life didn't turn out like I expected, but I'm not complaining. Through the ups and downs, I have been truly blessed. I have 4 wonderful children - 2 daughters, Melanie (26) and Kristy (27) and two sons Carringten (13) and Kevin (25). Both of my daughters are graduating from lawschool in May and Kevin is excelling in sales. I couldn't be prouder of them. We all live within a 35 mile radius in LA County. I'm currently in Calabasas.
I have a terrific husband and two stepsons 17 and 13. My husband and I are both lawyers. (I became a lawyer at age 40.) While I am more aggressive than Jim, we compliment each other. I've introduced him to my world which includes home remodeling, interior decorating, plays, fine dining, boisterous family times, waterskiing and snow skiing. We also enjoy doing things he likes such as weekend motorcyle rides, dirt bike riding, and shooting. Our children couldn't be more different, which makes for some interesting and challenging times.
My eldest daughter has been married for 6 years. Rob and Kristy blessed us all with a beautiful grandson in January of this year. Preston is remarkable. There is something truly wonderful about grandchildren. He brings tears to my eyes just watching him.
For those of you who knew my family, my father just past away in March from cancer. We miss him, but he fought long and hard for 7 years. God answered our prayers and took him quickly...Expand for more
at the end with little pain. My mother just turned 70, but looks like she is in her 50s. She's learning to cope without Dad, after 50 years of marriage. My parents have always been and continue to a great inspiration for me. Mom lives in Oregon, as do my two sisters, Kelly and Laura. Kelly is married, 3 kids (30, 27 and 24) and owns an insurance agency. She and Mark live on a 100 acre farm close to my mom. Laura is divorced with 2 daughters (19 and 21) and 2 grandchildren (1 and 2-1/2). She works in Portland, but also lives close to my mom. My brother Roy lives in Tacoma, WA and drives trucks. He has 1 son (7).

School
In high school, my career goal was to be a wife and mom. My path, however, had a few twists and turns.
I completed business college in 1978 and worked as a legal secretary through the greater part of my life. I went back to school and received my paralegal certificate from Cal State Long Beach in 1987. Working full-time as a legal secretary (and mom), I went took college classes at night and eventually completed my AA. In 1996, I went back to school once again, law school. It was challenging since I worked full-time and had four kids at home, but with the held of my three older children, I graduated from Whittier Law School in California in 1999. After passing the bar, I have been working as an attorney in December 1999.
