James's Story
After leaving Glenbrook I went into the Air Force. I was stationed at Travis AFB California. While there, I crewed a C-124 Globe-master, setting an Air Force record that will never be broken. I nursed all 4-engines to time change. The Air Force made a big deal out of it. Very late in 1964, I volunteered for Vietnam. What was I thinking? I was sent to the Philippines for specialized training and then I was sent to an expeditionary forces operation, and we flew C-123's out of Danange. After My discharge in mid 1966 I went to work for United Airlines in Chicago. Transferred to San Francisco in 1967, worked full time and went to school for a couple years to get my FAA Air-frame/Power-plant tickets. In 1969 I transferred back to Chicago. I eventually became an instructor teaching Taxi/High Power Engine Run-up, System Operationals, and Trouble Shooting. Teaching mostly wide-body aircraft 747, 767, 777, DC10. I would back fill on the narrow-bodies when needed.

ona. I retired after 37 years in 2003. For awhile there, I would freelance and contract out to teach large Boeing aircraft. I don't do that anymore, but, I do free lance as a advanced flight instructor. I have a passion for the world of flight. For years I owned and flew my own twin engine airplane, and I also flew part time corporate, A Lear Jet, Grand Commander, and a King-Air. I have a couple of old Pontiac GTO's, a 66 convert. and a 70 hardtop, that I bought new, and have restored them as show cars. I also ride a Harley in my valley time. I fly up to Chicago often to attend functions and interests. I had 2 children, a boy and a girl. My daughter has given me 2 wonderful grand-daughters. My son has never married. Even though my wife passed away in 2016, I manage to stay extremely active for a guy my age. I keep telling friends that I need to find a job someplace so I can get some rest. This retirement gig is killin' me. It's not easy trying to stay ahead of the Grim Reaper........
