James's Story
Life
My Dad was in the United States Air Force (stationed at Hamilton AFB), we were transfered to E. Harmon AFB, Newfoundland during my senior year (November 1963) at Novato High. I entry into the military Dec 1965, attended Warrent Office Flight School (Class of 66-19). Served for 71/2 years in US Army (2 tours RVN) took a direct Commission to 1st Lt. enroute to RVN 2nd tour - promoted to Capt. in RVN. Served in Alaska before leaving the service in 1971. Traveled for a couple years - all cross the United States, finally settled in Southern California at the suggestion of my best friend Cliff Butler - class of 1963 Novato High. I have been living in SoCal the past 35 years - and flying helicopters for many different aviation companies. Married a lady from Redlands California in 1973 - we had three great daughters. wife - Judy - to IBC cancer 4 months later. I finished the rebuilding of the house in July 2005. Received a invite to attend the Novato High School's 40th class reunion in September 2005 - meet a lot of old friends - It was at this reunion that I meet and fell in love with Dimitria Letsos, who was from my class (1964). We were married - September 22, 2007 in Walnut Creek California. . Sadly, our relationship didn’t last, as I was committed to a career in Southern California as Orange County Fire Authority’s first full time Fire Pilot, Operating similar helicopters as CalFire, putting out vegetation fires, large and small, rescuing lost hikers and occasionally using our helicopters to sling load livehorses from precarious predicament in the National Forest. I retired in 2017 and met my true love of my life a few years later - we resided here Southern California enjoying the sunshine and beaches…..
