James's Story
OK, so I'm looking up above at my profile and under the "interests" heading I see that I'm interested in musicals, cats, and canoeing! Not exactly an accurate snapshot of my interests. And I guess they rotate at each visit because the last time I was viewing my profile, it divulged that I was interested in classical music, snakes, and pantylines... which is probably more accurate! HA!
I have kept up with so few friends from GHS that I may come across as stand-off-ish ... but those who are "in-the-know" know that is quite a departure from the truth. I haven't been to any of our class reunions so I don't know much about how everyone else is doing. Sorry about that.
I went on from GHS to pursue my interests in art, though, admittedly, it took on the appearance of something a little less virtuous. Short academic stints in Europe and Asia seems like lofty personal achievements to the outsider, but were nothing short of an exercise in self indulgence. ression of the life that is going on around you and through you. It's more of a calling than anything else.
I've taught art at the university level, ...compete with other artists at local, regional, national, and international levels, ... operated a decorative finishing business, ... and currently work out of my studio in downtown KC in the art district (2 blocks from the Sprint Center). I've had the good fortune to have my work represented in periodicals across the country (not as impressive as one might think) and even had some of my work show up in some French "Arts and Literature" magazine. Since my French is waning, I still haven't determined if they were tossing me kudos, or slamming my a$$!
I committed an institutional sin and married one of my favorite students! So terribly romantic! We have seven wonderful, loving, and talented children and currently educate them at home.
I'm only scratching the surface here. I'm looking forward to "catching up" with those I knew in school, and getting to know those I didn't.
