James's Story

My story begins just like all others-Birth. Yeah. I suppose that is a cheeky way of starting a Lifes story, but--hey--I am just sayin'. My father was in the military when i was a thought in my parents future, I am the fourth of 5 kids. I am the 2nd survivor. My dad, being in the military at the time of my conception, had been moved around the world fighting the good fight. I started coming into my own while stationed in Turkey. Izmir to be exact. This is where I started to be the man that I am now. I learned that the US is not the "end all" to all of the worlds ills. I realized, however, that the US is a huge part in fixing these ills, and I wanted to be a part of it. I made friends with the people whose country i resided in. I learned that it actually takes a very little effort to keep these friends. All I had to do is use common sense and a little respect. Turkey also showed me that there is a lot to learn from history by just looking around. AWESOME Although I started to actually learn about Life while living in Turkey, I had already been to far away lands. My fathers journey had already had the Tobey family living in Libya. I actually still recall goings on from those early days. Most memorable were the camel rides and then an accident in which I was a victim. (yes--I survived!) California is the next place I recall-both from Libya and immediately after living in Turkey. California was a neat place to live in the mid to late 70's. None of the craziness that is now the norm. Taxes were lower and the people were not so self absorbed. After leaving California, my father was transfered to Hahn, Germany---where I started to delve into the adult world....in many aspects. High school was the proving grounds that never were... After graduating from High School I enlisted in the US Air Force. The Air Force was a great place for me. It gave me direction and taught me so many different life lessons that most would deny. Basic training was an eye opener. So many different people so many...Expand for more
different ways of seeing things. My chosen profession was that of an aircraft maintenance technician of the c-5 and c-141 aircraft with others thrown into the mix. But those were the two main two. I was able to go to places eve we military brats would only dream of. Places that were in the news. Places with good and bad things going on in them. I allowed me to be the proud American that I am now. I do believe that the military is for all. regardless of the political orientation or the mental capacity. After being basic training, I was stationed in Dover Delaware. Then off to Rhein Main AB (Germany). Finally I was transfered to Elmendorf AFB, Alaska. To the un-initiated, that is Anchorage Alaska. My home. I had married Jenny Cox while stationed in Delaware. This marriage produce 3 kids: James III, Kyle Patrick, and Kirsten Nicole. All god kids in their own right...same problems all kids (including us) got into. Jenny and I divorced for one reason or another. I then married Anita Doczy----this lasted for 6 years on the dot. Odd time of my life. Certain aspects of my life were turned topsy turvy. But I learned to be a bit more patient. After getting out of the military ( about ten years) I bar tended at a gentleman's bar ( not really gentlemen). I then found a job that i can enjoy. I now work of FedEx as a customs import broker. Interesting to say the least. Up to about October of 2007, I figured i would probably bounce from relationship to relationship, I finally got in touch with my FIRST and true love. I finally got a response from Tama Pohovich--I had e-mailed her in 1996 with no thought that she would resond. But, i tried again in 2007. Lo and behold, she did. Tama and I married June 5 2008. It took about 26 years but it sure was worth it. I know i am a difficult, very strong willed person, but she grounds me like no other can. i love her with all of my heart. I feel very blessed and very lucky I am very sure more will be added to this, but for now all is pretty much caught up.
