Jamie's Story
I like to hike - mostly in National Parks. Up mountains, glaciers, down canyons, as long the scenery is good. And there is a chance I will see animals not readily seen in Houston (which is just about anything.) Out hiking I have met a bear face to face on a trail. (He ran away - I guess my sister and I scared him.) Three bison that refused to move from the trail so we had to go around them through ankle deep mud - I won't mess with a bison. A young bighorn sheep that followed us down the mountain - I think it got separated from the herd. A mama grizzly with 4 cubs - still nursing. An elk giving birth. That was just a few weeks ago - it was something I will never forget. And lots of other animal/nature type things that aren't common around here.
I have mostly lived in the Houston area except when I was in elementary. Then, I lived in the beautiful parts of the country - Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, Utah, etc. That is where I go every chance I get. And Alaska. If I can talk my husband into it we will retire in one of those places.
My biggest passion is my husband. Love my dogs - a Dalmatian and a chi-weiner (that is a Weiner dog and a chihuahua mix.) And I love my children, mom, sisters, nieces and brother in law. AND my job.
My biggest surprise is that I am married with three children. Didn't plan on doing that - and it all came at once. I had to change a lot of my plans. But I wouldn't have changed any of it.

n a bigger master bedroom. My dream home would be in Montana or Idaho or Wyoming or Colorado.
I can't believe my parents didn't kill me. Children try the patience of Job.
I see my favorite teacher on a regular basis - Pam Watson and her husband Denman. They are part of my family.
If I won $100 million, I'd give half of it to environmental, children and animal charities, then spend the rest on travel, travel and travel.
I am what is called a skills specialist for science and social studies at a large high school. I work with the teachers creating, modeling and co-teaching lessons for them. I also crunch numbers based on the most ridiculous TAKS tests. UGH!!!! Can we make some children feel any more inadequate?
Last year my school won a national award for urban schools. Even though the award was for the school it was my project and I was the one who got to do the presentation in San Diego. It was great!
If I could do something differently it would be to waste less time. Life is too short to spend it doing nothing.
My favorite thing to do is to plan - plan for anything. I am very good at it. All those type things land in my lap at school. Vacations are my favorite though. Maybe that is what I will be when I grow up.
To be truly happy I would live in the mountains somehwere with a job that would allow me to travel several months out of the year. I like working with kids but I like working with teachers even more. They are a more direct line to more children. Literacy is important.
