Jan's Story
Life
What a long, strange trip it's been!
After graduating from Northern Arizona University, I took a job as a newspaper reporter in Sierra Vista, Arizona, then soon afterward moved into technical writing, which I find very enjoyable.
In my mid-20s, the bicycling bug bit me and has never let go. I've ridden many 100-plus-mile recreational rides, have been involved in planning and advocacy, and in 1993-94, took a solo, self-contained cross-country bicycle trip. Along the way, I fell in love with Texas, and moved to Bryan, TX in 1995. I work as a science writer and proposal coordinator for Texas A&M University, and do some freelance writing on the side for trade journals.
I also moonlighted for 10 years as a massage therapist, work which I found very satisfying.
Still bicycling, after a one-year hiatus due to breast cancer and treatment, but feeling more-or-less fine now.
Never married, no children, but in a committed relationship with a fine man, an electrician named Randy. I remain involved in volunteer work and communinty services, as well as trying to have a few laughs and enjoy life as much as possible.
