Jane's Story
I have been living in Grand Forks, North Dakota for the past 16 years and working as a Spanish professor at the University of North Dakota. When arrived here, I never would have believed that I would have stayed here as long as I have. I previously lived in Austin, TX from 1983-1986 while working as a Spanish teacher at a small, private Episcopal school. The school has a boarding component and for two of those years, I was a "dorm mommy" living in a dorm with about 20 girls in 8th-9th grade. Yike...Expand for more
s!! From 1986-1992, I lived in Urbana, IL while I completed my Master's and Ph.D. degrees in Spanish Applied Linguistics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I moved to Grand Forks in 1992 when I accepted the position at UND. My life mainly revolves around my work--teaching and research. Not a lot of excitement, but not a lot of drama, either. My family is still in the Twin Cities and I make the trip down I-94 several times a year to visit with my mother, siblings, and nephews.
