Jane's Story
Well, I went to Grinnell College and the University of California at Santa Cruz, and majored in Classical Studies and Art. From there I worked as a 1) rafting guide 2)department store assistant manager and buyer 3) marketing director at the horse races 4) rafting company manager 4) chamber of commerce executive director 5) executive director of a development company, and probably other things I've forgotten. I also spent considerable time not working and having fun. And I traveled all over.
I didn't get around to having kids until I was 32 and tried to be as much of a stay at home mom as I could. I ended up homeschooling my kids until high school because I couldn't stand the school system and...Expand for more
wanted my kids to be free thinkers (that hasn't changed in all these years!). Now my kids are 16 and 20 and I am back in the work force. I work for an Indian tribe in California. I am the project manager for a special grant to design solar "green" low income houses that reflect native american culture. And I am the tutor for the reservation kids, K-12, all subjects. Everything I do for work has to do with Indians and I love it. I also throw pots (on a wheel, do stained glass and some metal sulpture.
At some point (maybe soon) I want to rent an apartment in Spain or make pies and sell them on the beach on some Carribean island. Or maybe be an old gray haired river guide in the Grand Canyon...
