Janeen's Story
Who I Am...A working single parent for several lifetimes. I have 10 children (7 I gave birth to, 1 adopted, 1 passed away, raised 2 grandchildren, have 2 stepsons, have 36 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren). I Worked with homeless families in motels and shelters. Marched in Washington,DC, slept "under the gold dome" of Boston State House. Member of State of VT State Standing Committee for Developmental Disabilities. Past board member of CC&I Community Action Committee. Peer Facilitator at Upper Valley Services and VT Psychiatric Survivors, first VT Woman to win Adelphia Cables' Woman of the Year Award.
Moved to VT in 1994 with my youngest daughter and left 7 grown children on the Cape. Within 5 years 1 son moved to FL permanently and the rest moved to VT and have been here ever since. I just couldn't lose them!! Two of my children were in two separate car accidents. My son is the only one alive from his crash. My daughter, who's boyfriend was driving, was thrown from the car 7 years ago. She now lives in a residential home for people with TBIs. I want to bring...Expand for more
her home. The other 2 tragedies in my life was the death of my infant daughter and the murder of my 6 month old granddaughter.
I have been blessed and have a remarkable family. I have left my mark on the world in many ways past and present. Now I am on my way to the future.
I went to school in Wareham for K through the 9th grade. When my parents moved from Wareham to Rochester I went kicking and screaming! Two weeks into ORRHS I knew I never wanted to go back. I joined an amazing sophomore class of students that totally interacted with each other...so much the opposite of the class I left behind in Wareham, where students were divided by how they dressed, by race, by courses, grades, jeolousy, etc. Those things didn't seem to exist at ORRHS and I hope and pray that is still the "Standard" behind and outside the school's front door. Many former classmates inspired me to let go of a lot of my fears. There were 2 who built me up and believed in me despite what I had to live with.
It was the BEST 3 years of my life! Thank You to the SPIRIT OF ORRHS!!! Janeen 🦉
