Janelle's Story
Lets see -- a lot has happened in these many years since Ballard. I graduated in '68, went on to college, didn't know what to do so I worked in marketing with Channel 7, then went onto the University of Washington and worked in administration while attending school. Then made the best decision of my life, marrying my husband, Brad. In 1989 we adopted our first child, followed by our second in 86. We fostered 5 other children during the time between 82 and 2004.
After working with special education children I began to figure out that this REALLY was fun! The next 20+ years were wonderfully filled with teaching teachers and working with children with diagnoses of Autism Spectrum disorders, ADHD, etc.
In 1995 I took the leap of faith (with 2...Expand for more
other friends) and founded Children's Academy -- which grew into Academy Schools. I love my work, I love the kids and I enjoy the opportunity to train educators in the neurological ins and outs of Spectrum children. It's been a great ride and I love every day of it!!
Free time activities include being Grandma, boating, and travel. We usually spend at least a month on our boat each summer as well as travel during the fall. My 2 favorite trips were Egypt and Israel---but Spain and New Zealand were pretty amazing, too!
By 2014 we retired from foster care with child. Number 12, bought a Big boat, moved aboard and retired. I consult a little, but retirement with my handsome prince of 35 years in the greatest.
Life is very good and i am blessed.
