Janet's Story

Life WOW where has time gone! This is fall of 2007. I had remarried, a few years after my husband died. I am divorced. I never thought I would say those words. But marrying a man that is narcissistic and a sociopath, was not what the Lord had intended for me. I am a hospice social worker, I work in very rural areas, some with Amish and Mennonite people in Kansas. It is very humbling. I am a proud grandma of 21/2 year old Diego River Laven. My daughter Jenny and her hubby live in Leavenworth. She has a Vintage Clothing Store and My son in law Lance is a Master Electrician and has his own business. My son Justin is half way through Culinary School here in Kansas. He was my frozen pizza kid, so go think! My mom lives with me. I am still in our log home that my ex I built.I am awaiting it to sell. You can see it on the Reece Nichols web site, a virtual tour. I am so blessed to have my Lord Jesus in my life. I often wonder how non believers survive. I have a side business of soapmaking and eclectic arts. I was featured in the Kansas City Star Magazine last week. That is my therapy to create. I love to travel. I am going to Quebec City next year. After 21 years of military life with my Albert, the travel does not get out of the girl. I do not have a TV, we live way out until the house sells and it is so peaceful here. I read a lot. I am teaching an Ethics class at Ft Leavenworth for Upper Iowa University. I dabble in some college teaching. I would love to here from any one. I am the 72 graduate of Normandy, I posted Independence High School because my group of girlfriends and I hung out with Independence people. Fast forward now to July 2008. I am quite busy with work and teaching. I have also re-acquainted myself with a long lost LOVE, the love of speed ice skating. I started skating again. I have also been bike riding and kayaking. My mom now lives in an assisted living, she was no longer safe to live here while I was at work. I love what I do and try very hard to feel what my hospice pts feel. I try to keep then laughing, I am still the jokester, just ask my peers. Life is worth living and God is good. Wendy, Roseanne, Nancy, Diane B and Sara, we all try to keep in touch after all these years. CERVANTES!!. I still live in the Log home, has not sold yet. I love natural and down to earth stuff, I try to exercise and eat right. I make my own soaps, lotions. I have studied to be an herbalist, but have not completed, work in progress. I am blessed. WE MAY NEVER PASS THIS WAY AGAIN. Janet ( Benesch) Gutierrez Update, Spring 2010. Well my home sold last year, I am still in the country. My mo...Expand for more
m lives in an assisted living facility, as of 2 years ago. I changed jobs, I was offered my old job back before I went to work with hospice. I am the Director of Social Work Services in a Rehab facility. I am consulting part time to 1 small nursing home, but will only do this 2 more months. I will start my summer college teaching in June and July. This time around I am teaching social gerontology. I am keeping busy. I am trying to slow down and smell the wild flowers I have here. Life is good. God is good. Life if short not to look at the stars in the sky and the awesomeness of life. Planning on going to Quebec with my 2 sisters and cousin in October. I have a dear girlfriend in the Army nursing corp and we plan to travel sometime to Ireland. I love to travel and plan 1 big trip a year. Well it is now 2011. My son now lives in Calif as he accepted a chef position with the PGA West. MyI daughter, grandson and I traveled there last month. I am working hard at the rehab facility I have chickens now and they are close to laying eggs. I am LOOKING forward to the 2012 reunion. I will be there, God willing Well it is 2013. I am laid off from my social work job. The hospital and rehab were bought. Reorganization occurred. I am at home now for 1 week. I am trying to expand my homemade soap business and eclectic arts and crafts. I make home made hand stirred Sheep's Milk Soaps. They are made on my small farm. . I would love to hear from any of my fellow classmates. I am listed on Facebook as Janet Gutierrez. It has been a cold winter here in Kansas. This is good because it freezes our ground, kills all the bad bugs! It will help our garden. I have to say it is rather nice to not have to get up and travel 60 miles 1 way to work. My creative juices are flowing. I did not make it to the 40 th reunion. But I did see pics from my Cervantes gals. We all still keep in touch. Those were fond memories. It is June of 2013 and I am back to working..Had that nice break. I accepted a position at an all inclusive Retirement Community. I am the Director of Social Work Service. It has been very busy, just the few short weeks that I have been working. Soap making is going well, but nothing I can quit my day job..HAHAHA Janet Fast forward to 2022!! Happily retired from 36 years in Social Work. I am enjoying traveling,. I have been to a Europe many times and recently to Prague where I found family. I I am continuing with my Soap Shop on my property. The Bohemian Prairie Alchemist.. I am a certified Aromatherapist. I am an Herbalist along with being a Soapmaker!
