Janet's Story

I graduated Methacton High School in 1966. I worked at PA Bell for a short while, then at Norristown Ford. After that I took a job in the Ins. Dept. for Gino's, Inc. There I met my future husband, Seth R. Lucas II, whom was working in Camden, NJ at a Rustler Steak House, as an assistant manager. We engaged in 1969 and married in April 1970. We started our married life in Camden, NJ. I continued working for Gino's as my husband busily climbed the corporate ladder. We moved to Dundalk, Md, then on to New Castle, Del., and from there to LA, Ca. From there we moved to Santa Clara, CA., then to Hanover Park, IL. I started working for Kelly Girl Services in New Jersey, as my husband became a manager for Rustlers' Steak House (a subsidiary of Gino's, Inc.). I stayed with Kelly as we moved from state to state, and my husband went from Asst. manager to Manager to District manager to Area manager. While living in Santa Clara I started Saratoga Community College. I became pregnant with our first child, and as Seth was promoted again, off we went ... this time to IL, and to the experience of purchasing our first (and only) home in Hanover Park, IL. We moved into our new home, Dec. 1973, and our first child Seth III, was born in Feb. 1974. Seth continued his job with Gino's, until our second child was born in Sept. 1975 ... this time it was a girl named Melissa. Our marriage started on its' 'rocky path' around this time. When our daughter was 15 months old and son was just under 3 years old, we did separate. In April 1978, just days after our 8th anniversay, we did finally divorce. I started bartending in Oct. 1977, then went on to experience the restaurant business by continuing to bartend/manage, then became part owner of a bar. I kept that home and raised my children as a single mother for 23 years. I have never remarried. I came to Reno, Nv. in 1997, initially because my son was living here. He now is married and living in KY. since 2005. My daughter is married, and is raising her family, only 5 minutes from the home in which she was raised. I took a job in a local casino, once arriving in Reno, as a cage cashier. I remain working for that same casino, now 14 years later, and am a cage supervisor. (I work with people and money, not animals! ... This mistake has happened, and I just want to clarify!!) I now am the proud grandmother of six. Keeping it even ... I have 2 boys and a girl from Seth ... and, 2 girls and a boy from Melissa! They r...Expand for more
ange in ages, from 16 to 6. I met a very nice fellow by the name of Dan, in 2000. He works for another casino in town, and we now live together in a small apartment, located in the 'arts district' in downtown Reno. Living our life now, by the Truckee river, is nice ... and living life with alot less baggage, does have its' advantages! Raising children and upkeeping the home, was a totally rewarding experience, and had its' place in my life. Traveling lighter, with alot less physical 'things', now has a place in my life, and feels 'just right'! Can't say I don't miss some things, like my own garden and the room to entertain friends as I used to...but one can't have everything in life, now then, can they? Not ALL at the same time, anyway!! If that were so, we'd have that lovely youth, we once had ... ALL the time, wouldn't we?!!! My story hasn't ended yet, thank the Good Lord. My health is pretty good, considering the aging process. We all have some concerns, we are prayfully taking conscience care of, I presume. So far, this is still a wonderful life!! It's now 2014... What's new for me? That nice man I met and live with ...well, we got married in 2013. We moved to a condo in same arts' district, which has a lovely view to the Truckee River. We both still work at respective casinos. My daughter is now living with her family in San Antonio TX, and my son has divorced and moved back to Reno. Life still moves on...Thank God! Now it's 2016. Last year was a very full year, to say the least. Dan and I purchased the condo we live in. I had a grandson, Seth's boy, graduate high school then joined the Marines...a very hard-worked-for, and proud moment for our whole family! However, the most significant experience in my life also occurred. On April 14th, my 41 year old son, Seth, was tragically shot and killed here in Reno. My loss and grave sadness is overwhelming! It still is a very difficult time to navigate. The mind is a tricky place...memories flood. The legal process moves forward, a trickle at a time. We pray for some resolve in this year!! The grief continues, and I've been informed by those jn-the-know, will be never-ending! On a brighter note...my health is good and I still have the most lovely daughter in the world. I have 6 amazing grandchildren and the dearest husband that God could have blessed me with! The road of life is still wonderful, but it does not stop coming up with hidden twists and turns!! And life goes on....
