Janet Evpraxia's Story
Life
Hummm, well, my life has turned very differently than what I planned. No surprise to anyone, I'm sure.
Quick recap: Went to college in the Pacific Northwest and majored in Matrimony by marrying John Wehlitz. Worked for a while in a child care center and then moved to the High Tech sector. Worked with and around computers for the next few decades (Yikes...Decades??? Nah! Can't be!!) Well, OK, I've been married for 30 years, and love it!
My mom, Violet, died of lung cancer in 1992; no, she never smoked but had asthma and grew up in the coal-heating area, the midwest.
John & I moved to some family property in 1992. It is 1 1/2 acres in a farming community southwest of Portland, Oregon. One of these years, I will actually start a garden.
In 2000, we were adopted by a four-legged wonder we named Toc, which stands for THE Orange Cat. She is spoiled, but does know when she steps over the line.
My sister, Pearl, and I have done a lot of learning and remembering; not all of it fun. We are very thankful that now there are laws against child abuse. We have also learned a vast amount about elder care and dementia, along with legal conservatorship and guardianship.
In general, as with most if not all of t...Expand for more
he people on earth, there have been terrific, good, awful and OK years. All years have taught me something and some I really enjoyed.
I hope you also have learned and enjoyed the years.
Workplace
I started out in child care, and soon went to High Tech in the Inventory Control field. I survived High Tech at Tektronix for 11 years and left to work at Mentor Graphics before I was laid off, a common thing in that industry. I worked for Mentor Graphics for about 7 1/2 years, first in Inventory Control and then about 3 years as a Project Manager of the MGC Price/Product List, often being a bridge between marketing and manufacturing. My first lay-off, how special... Then I worked for a variety of high tech firms, in Human Resources and Inventory Control: IDC, Planar, Protocol, In Focus, and a not so high tech company Louisiana-Pacific. Then branched into the private club arena by working for the Multnomah Athletic Club (MAC) in Portland, Oregon in the HR dept. After mega overtime, I decided to spend more time with my father-in-law who is fighting colon cancer, and dealing with my own father's finances - for whom I'm the legal conservator due to his dementia.
I have learned a lot so far, and have more to learn.
