Janet(Jeanette)'s Story
JANET (or Jeanette) WELLBAUM & LEON MEDSKER were married on June 9, 1956, just before my graduation. We have 4 children (Mike, Julie, Donna & Carrie). We have 9 GRANDCHILDREN and 2 GREAT-GRANDSONS.
HOW I MEET MY SPOISE
Leon went to Sierra Hi with Bob Smith (my grammar school classmate). Sandy Post had a reunion party for the kids from St Joe's Grade school, when we were sophomores. Bob Smith brought Leon and for me, it was love at first sight. The party was to be only for the kids who graduated in 1952. So, Leon was a "party crasher". Later that night, he asked if he could take me home. I said yes... then I had my brother take me back to Sandy's for a slumber party. Sneaky, but every minute with Leon counted that night.
We dated off & on for 3 years only after I would run into him, once at a stoplight on the way home from the beach. Another, New Year's Eve at the Rose Parade... now that was fate.
I didn't see him for a year and was dating Ted Porter ('55) in my senior year. Leon had joined the Navy, he came home on leave in Oct '55 and we became engaged. This wasn't easy because he had to deal with my 3 older brothers who went to Leuzinger.
After my graduation, we moved to Millington, TN Naval Base for a year and then back to LA/Norwalk, LaPuente from '61 to '92 and then to Diamond Bar until we retired to Golden Valley, AZ. in 1998.
We had a race car for years from the 60'S to the 70'S and ran at ASCOT, RIVERSIDE, ONTARIO, SAN BERDO - tracks from VEGAS TO BAKERSFIELD. You may have seen Nascar #46. We played with a lot of fun toys - boats, Jeeps/Broncos (loved to go to Yuma), ATV'S - RC Cars, Slot Cars, anything with wheels. Now it is a golf cart.
MY MOST VIVID HI-SCHOOL MEMORY
OVERNIGHT TRIP to PASO ROBLES for C.I.F. SEMI-FINALS. We WON and the HOTEL we stayed at - SURVIVED.
MY HI-SCHOOL MEMORIES
Hitting the TENNIS BALLS over the FENCE to KILL 20 MINUTES in GYM, (remember the train tracks, it took awhile to retrieve the balls). MR. GOODFELLOW'S WITCHES BREW. Senior Square - Senior Car Wash and Donna Dee Deffenbaugh - great clouds of wetness. And the FOOTBALL GAMES.
OUR MUSIC
Earth Angel, Little Girl Of Mine. The Great Pretender.

ABOUT ME.
I didn't climb a corporate ladder but I have known all types of people from the very top to the bottom of the barrel and I have enjoyed finding the best in them. I feel I have been self-taught from the book of life.
WHAT I WANTED WHEN I THINK BACK
TO MARRY LEON AND RAISE A FAMILY. Did and Done.
WHAT I WAS INTERESTED IN SCHOOL
Not academic - going to Tastee Freeze for lunch or ditching school to go to the beach.
MY JOBS
United Insurance on Wilshire Blvd.
Private secretary (ADMINISTRATOR ASSISTANT)
Factories (NO MORE DRESSING UP)
Construction (on-site job boss)
FAVORITE TEACHER
Miss McGinty, who made me feel special, she liked my short stories. In my yearbook, she wrote: "One of the jewels in the crown, I hope to get to heaven". HOW MANY TIMES DID SHE WRITE THIS???
PETS
We have had dogs, cats, show pigeons, Charley the Chicken, rabbits, Donald (oops, Denise) Duck, a king snake, hamster, finches, cockatiels, a turtle, fish (including a 22 lb catfish), Billy the goat, and a pigmy goat (who ate my flowers), Spot the piglet (who wagged his tail, tried to bark and loved Cheerios). So many pets, I said, "I would make tacos out of the next one brought home". Julie, then, brought home a orphaned baby skunk. No tacos. OH, I forgot the barn owl (nothing like digging up worms at midnight to feed it).
MY INTERESTS NOW
Off-Roading. Rock Hunting and polishing. Clearing 3 acres, we put in a 18 (like miniature golf) HORSESHOE PITCH AND WALK. I enjoy the computer and family research and keeping in touch with friends & family.
THIS BIO IS DEDICATED TO MY SON, MIKE, FOR HIS ENCOURGEMENT TO UPDATE.
On January 1, 2005, I lost my one true love. we were married for 48 and 1/2 years (I must include the 1/2 year... because every minute with Leon counted). Our journey together was smooth sailing or a bumpy road but whatever it was - it was always together.
He promised to wait just beyond the moon and someday, together, we will find our special star because the Keeper Of The Stars knew what he was doing when he joined these two hearts (the lines I love from my 2 favorite songs. Just Beyond the Moon by Tex Ritter and Keeper of the Stars by Tracy Byrd).
