Janet Clementson:

CLASS OF 1966
Palos verdes estates, CA

Janet's Story

Greetings from sunny Colorado! Well, this is the first for me! Using the social media stuff, that is. Let's see, since Palos Verdes... I have spent most of my life here, in Colorado. If you remember, my Father was a "Lifer" in the Air Force (Army/Air Corp/ Air Force), we moved to CA from the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. After (or shortly before) the Apollo tragedy (the fire in the cabin on the Launchpad; all died), Dad resigned from North America and we moved back to Colorado. Started college at Denver University - within 2 or 3 weeks of the start of classes, I was Involved in a horrific auto accident. Almost died. Bob Lindt (not really sure if I've spelled the last name correctly- he also was a P.V. graduate, a football player, if my memory serves me), was in the same accident. His spinal cord was severed, he never walked again. Anywho, my recovery was more than interesting... if required, I could possibly go into more detail, but there are more interesting things to discuss !? Picked up college the next year, as well as my 1st husband, who I transferred to the Univ. of CO in Boulder with for the next year. Then moved to Oregon (Univ. of Oregon, in Eugene), then to P-town for about 5 more years (Portland State University, studying under Mr.Potter-a very accomplished ceramic/potter. It was this opportunity that got me into makig pots! Which is still one of my beloved things! After Portland (with our marriage breaking up), we moved to Ketchum (Sun Valley), Idaho, for three years. After the "BIG breakup" (he was such a jerk!), my "Perpetual Student" Father talked me into moving back to Colorado to complete my college degree. Strangely enough, I graduated from the University of No.Colorado, in Greeley, after completing a 5-yr. program in three... (?) with a degree in Special Education/Art Therapy. Besides doing the education curriculum, I was fortunate to be able to study under a truly awesome man (and sometimes under his wife/ a sculpture), continuing my advancement in ceramics. What happened with my "career", so to speak, from that point to present is nothing much to brag about. Skipping all the work boredom details, I did a lot of job jumping. I did some Substitute teaching in math, computers, art, whatever/wherever needed- in Jr.High/High school/Community College, worked accounting in the oil & gas business, Admin. stuff, etc., etc. After my second head injury (they call it Traumatic Brain Injury) in 1996, work became exceedingly difficult, my mind/memory was shot (!), I was encouraged to take time off, recover, and go on a Disability. I am never sure if the Disability route was the appropriate or correct action to have taken, but, at the time and for many years, my 2nd injury was more than devas...Expand for more
tating. Who knows? Who knows what the best road is to follow in this life of ours. What works for someone at one time... whatever! Life goes on!! Always - somehow - completely out of our control. Or, is that even true? Predestination? Who knows. I have become a very religious adult, having faced and followed death several times, not only for myself but with my Mother and Father and friends as well. Life is indeed a mystery, I look somewhat (?) forward to understanding or knowing WHY! Yes, I most certainly have questions... but then, who are we (mere mortals!) that we should even ask? GOD's plans can sometimes be very vague, and take strange turns. But, I firmly believe, GOD IS in control (thank goodness! On my own, I can make enough of a mess!). And, for whatever reason, HE knows the beginning from the end, my life is in HIS hands, and I trust HIM. Let me get off the soapbox... to carry on. Horses have come into and out of my life. Well breed horses, mares in foul, baby horses, nags, etc,, I have enjoyed them all. The horse sport/business, however, has become a very expensive thing. Needless to say, my work, or lack of, has me in a financial position a well-defined activities! The horse memories are cherished and I feel blessed to have been able to partake. My dear Mother left us in 1998, of lung cancer. Fortunately, she didn't suffer long, and passed to be with Jesus easily. But I still miss her greatly. We were the best and closest of friends, so it has been hard. I suppose I'll always miss her, she was such a wonderful person and Mother. But, I feel lucky to have been her child, she was so sweet and good. My Father still hangs around! He's an incredible person. At 96, he's still on his feet and has a good mind. The old Colonel, as everyone calls him, has the old world charm and manners that all the ladies love! He has lived in Assisted Living now since 2004. He has such a good spirit and strength about him, such a happy and positive attitude. A real joy and pleasure to be around! I am lucky. In spite of my life calamities and failings, I can count my blessings daily. I always wanted children, but GOD's directions for me were different. So, I continue to search for what HE has planned for me, what goal HE has designed for me to accomplish...and, I can truly say ~ life is good, GOD is good! GOD is good Always!! And each day is a new one, provides another opportunity to excel. And I'll try my damndest (sp?) to carry on in an enjoyable, rewarding and successful way!! So, tell me about you? What's new, what's old, how's life treating YOU? Whoever you are from Palos Verdes who remembers me... let me know. I'd love to take the time and CHAT! Take care and may GOD bless you greatly, Janet Clementson
