Janette's Story

Life Attended University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA and majored in Geology. Met my husband, Geoffrey Black, also a Geology major in 1976 and were married in 1978. We each completed a Masters in Geology, 1982 at Montana State University in Bozeman, MT and worked for Gulf/Chevron Oil Co in Casper WY until 1985. I taught geology at Flathead Valley Community College in Kalispell, MT while Geoff began a Masters degree in Natural Resource Economics at MSU. I worked at MSU as a college admissions counselor and academic advisor until 1988. We moved to Seattle, WA for Geoff's PhD in Economics. I worked as an environmental geologist from 1988 to 1993. position at Bates College, Lewiston ME. I became a part-time career counselor at Bates College with a focus on Pre-Med and Science careers. In 1995, Geoff was offered a tenure track position at Marist College in Poughkeepsie NY. I taught geology and geography at SUNY New Paltz, NY and later was a full time career counselor at Vassar College. After receiving tenure at Marist, in April 2000, Geoff was offered a position at Boise State University in Idaho and we jumped at the chance to live in the west again. Geoff is teaching Natural Resource Economics and I am working for PageTalk.com and consult on career counseling. We still get together with Kathy (McGuire)Leon, Sandy (Guy) Cox and Susie (May) Aygarn and their families.
