More about Janice:"I have been home on disability from Duke Med Center( pretty much entirely) since June of 1997.I injured my back at work in the ICN on Fri the 13th, when one of my moms passed out at the bedside. I knew she was going down, even found her a chair to sit in but she refused to sit. Anyway her eyes rolled back in her head and I jumped around behind her and caught her before she hit the floor and I knew I was hurt right away...I felt a serious pop in my back and immediate pain followed. I've had every procedure known to man short of surgery with no success!
I have been in my second marriage for the past 27 yrs to a guy I met when I worked for the water department in Charlotte. I have two children from my first marriage and Matthew and I have one son between us. They are all grown, my older son is married and they have my only grandson, Nicholas. My only daughter is single, (married once) and is currentlly trying to have a baby on her own,okay, so she has a little help from an anynonmus donor. Our youngest son finally got engaged over Christmas 2010 to a great young lady, Debbra (I hope I spelled it correctly...forgive me if it is incorrect) without a definite date for the wedding ,yet!! Joseph, (he will always be Joey to me) is an auto tech (they aren't referred to as mechanics any more) for Johnson Lexus in Durham and my daughter, Juanita,(she will always be Cissie to me) is employed by BCBS in Durham and has been there for seven yrs now in agent services. Kris, my oldest, is also home on disability with a debilitating skin disorder with about twenty letters in it. He and Kendall have been married almost seventeen or eighteen yrs and proudly gave us our only grandson currently, Nicholas, that is a freshman in hi school!! Nicholas is in JRROTC with plans of going into the Navy after graduation!!
My first marriage was a disaster!!! We were together for 8 long hard yrs. He was not only an alcoholic but a wife beater to boot. Our first born son passed away just hours after he was born from anoxia, for those not familiar with med terms, he was deprived of O2 during delivery suffering from extensive brain damage. He is buried at Sharon Memorial in Charlotte. That really matures a 17 yr. old overnight.
The next eight yrs were hard as a single parent, but fortunately without my two older kids getting in any trouble and unfortunately no child support. As i said earlier, I met my current husband while I worked as a dispatcher for the water department there in Charlotte. Matt was working for a company that was contracted to the city to evaluate the quality of the city's water lines. Because his job was traveling nationwide to different cities for weeks or months at a time, we decided that no longer fit our families lifestyle, therefore, he took a job that required our moving to Roanoke, Va for the next 4 years. During that move, i went back to college and earned my assoc. degree in nursing.".
