Janice's Story

Life Married Frank in '77; children: Jennifer '79; Gina '82; Matthew '85. Lived in Los Banos '77-'85; San Jose '85-'90; Los Banos yet again '90-'98; and finally San Jose '98-present in the old 'hood of Pala Rancho, around the block from my dad (where I lived when I was in school) and my brother Steve lives on the block behind us. Frank is a Lt. with the shefiff's dept.; I am an oral-maxillofacial surgical assist. for an oral surgeon in Santa Clara; Jennifer is an RDA dental assist.; Gina is a lobby ambassador for Cisco Systems; Matt is a student at Evergreen. They all still live at home with us and our shitzu Bijou and Nigel the cat. School Biggest crushes? Oh dear... A very eclectic group: Ralph Borelli, Scott Newcomer, Lee Ashford, Tim Ghazaleh (this is embarrassing, the list goes on and on)Tony Canton, Paul Mackay, Reyes Noriega, Steve Honea (did I mention I had a boyfriend most of the time?) Ken Rushane, Chris Merkley, Richard Real, I'm sure there are more, and then those from other classes... The teachers who most inspired me were Miss Giltinan (frosh Eng.), Mr. Melching (I may have had a crush on him too...), Herr Hartley (Deutsch). Do It all over again - possibly. Those were very emotional days. I much prefer who I am now without all the social status drama of high school. College One year at Santa Clara U. Steve Simonetti where are you? Remember all the trips to Santa Cruz -you brought the sandwiches!! And the double dates at the miniature golf and then pizza? I then went on to be trained in dent...Expand for more
al assisting at the San Jose Bay Area School of Dental Assisting. I took a few courses at Evergreen and then several more in Los Banos at Merced CC. Since then I've had specialized training in oral surgery and general anesthesia. Workplace My first jobs were in retail (Macy's eastridge & ValleyFair), teaching at a pre-school in Cupertino, then dental assisting until I moved to Los Banos in 1977. I got a job at Dos Palos High teaching or tutoring students in remedial math. I went back to reatail at JC Penney, then front desk/receptionist for a local dentist. I took 20 years off to raise my 3 children. When we relocated back to San Jose in 1998, the economic difference caused me to seek employment to help us financially. I found a job with an oral surgeon and am currently employed there, although I am looking forward to retirement. Update 10/2013 I have recently retired after about 15 years of assisting surgeries, and we relocated to Gilroy three years ago. My husband has been a captain with the Sheriff's Office for about six years now, our daughter Jennifer got married two years ago, daughter Gina will graduate law school in April 2014, and our son Matt has been a deputy Sheriff for almost four years. Life is good. I have had the pleasure of reconnecting with many alumni of Mt. Pleasant and recently attended a 40th-ish reunion with classes spanning ten years, from 1969 through 1979. It was wonderful! We are an amazing group who seems like family and thoroughly knows how to have an epic party! Love you all!
